I went out in the hills Sunday and showed a friend how well my dmax ran. In 4_low it has no power in 1st gear, then when its in second it starts to build boost. What gives? It does this all the time, do they de-tune it in 4low? Also as I would get to the top of the hill, the moter would boog down and not down shift for a while. Then it would but their is no power or boost. Any one have this problem?

It is that way to protect the tranny. Mine is the same way. You may not have noticed it but it does the very same thing in 2 wheel drive, not nearly as noticeable thou. If you were to look at your gas peddle you will see there is not a cable that goes directly the the fuel body, but instead there is a bunch of wires that sends a signal as to how much power can be applied at any given time.

thats what I thought it might be. It sure can tell in 4low, it seems like it is cutting at least 50% power.

I had that happen when i was pulling my buddy out of a BIG mud hole. We had a big tow rope that i know will strech a good4-5 feet. So i was trying to snap him out with the bunjie cord afect but i would floor it to get speed and the truck would slowly billed boost and power like increadably slow. So i tryed again but i held the brake till i new the power was there then letter ripe. All I gotta say is I have never seen the frame on an old ram twist like that. I thought it was gonna snap it in half, man do these trucks have TORQUE.

In 4lo the torque is soo high that I cannot hold the truck with the brakes when in gear (idle torque). I have no idea what kind of power loss you guys are talking about. In 4lo you need torque but NOT POWER and there is plenty of that available!

My 2002 GMC gets up and goes in 1st in 4lo. Doesnt sound right. It does have wicked turbo bark when you have it in 1st 4lo redlining it and trying to rock it out of a stuck tho.

In 4low there is no power, no torque, no boost, no rpms, just your foot hitten the floor. It does this with or with out the Edge chip. So it has to be computer controlled.
It takes load to build boost, so in 4x4 low it has little load. The brakes should still work. All they have to do is disconnect the torque converter. Geo.
