Well I have soem time to write my experience with my 2007 Duramax. I am in Kenmare ND, because of some border problems regarding paperwork.

First off this is my second Duramax and forth Gm Diesel, In the past I have mainly used the truck for highway running and pulling boats up to 4500lbs. So I can't really say I have ever really put the d-max to the test until now. I recently bought a New Holland LS180 out of Elk River MN and am in the process of towing it back to Saskatchewan Canada. I am towing it witha Hyrdrolic tilt trailer that I would estimate around 2800lbs it is a heavy trailer. I have my Edge Evo on level 1 economy and have had it on this setting for months now. Coming up to this pull I was a little skeptical of actually how well this truck would pull around 11k. Having pulled the boats with weights around 4000lbs I expected more power out of the duramax and was thinking this may be a struggle!!!

I was wrong!!! This truck shocked me, I pulled that heavy beast at 65mph up and down hills and as I have read from other on this forum, you almost forget it is there!!! I stayed locked into 6th gear the entire trip except for one downshift on a hill north of Minot and even then it was just for a few seconds.

Mileage varied for around 10.8-14.3mpg which I was ok with. The only thing I noticed is that for some reason the boost would stay higher on some stretches of flat road than others. For example at 65mph on flat roads normally I would run 7lbs boost and get 13.9-14.3 MPH then other and even some with slight declines (no wind) I would run 11lbs boost and get 10.8-11.6. It just seemed to flip back and forth for no reason. I checked everything including trailer brakes. I dunno.

But overall I was very impressed with the LBZ, I can honestly say that it felt better towing 11k than most of the boats I have prior.

Well I know I always valued reading others experiences with towing, prior and after purchusing my truck.

Now back to waiting for me, I have 12 more hours before I can cross the border:(

I hope you made it across the border alright. Up until DEC. 2005, when I bought my Duramax Truck I had never had the pleasure of experiencing the pulling power of a good diesel truck. I had pulled campers and trailers with gas powered trucks and was familar with having to get the rpms up to have any power. Case in point- my 2003 GMC with 5.3L and 3.73 gears wouldn't have much pulling power until it down shifted and then it sounded like it was going to blast off to the moon. I always wondered why does a small block chevy bog down so much pulling a small camper. My fuel mileage pulling that camper on the four lane was around 11 to 13 mpg. My 2006 2500 HD D/A will get 12 to 14 MPG on the same trip, pulling the same camper with a whole lot less effort. I have also figured out that its not the weight thats killing my fuel mileage, it is the wind drag from the camper. Most of the time when towing with the Duramax I have to look back to make sure I have not lost my trailer. My fuel mileage has been from 12 to 22.8 MPG with the duramax. With the 5.3 gas motor I never did see over 19.8 MPG. I love my Duramax Truck more and more everyday and hope it last for 25 years or longer. It very well could be the next to last truck I ever by.

I think you even got good mileage with the 5.3, for a gasser. My old 4.7 durango would only get 12/17 no matter what. What a pig truck that was. And the d-max would tear it in half.
