Hey everybody just wondering if anyone has compared the Bose LUX upgrade with an aftermarket Nav system w. no additional amp? Is it worth investing in the LUX system or can it be done cheaper on the aftermarket with little difference?...Also figured I would get two birds w. one stone...Is it possible to put a sub box behind the rear seat of an 07 2500 classic ext cab...I've seen it done on the crew cab trucks but I didn't know if it was pos. on the ext. cab

Are you talking sound quality vs. $$$ vs. retaining stock controls or what?

It really depends on what you are after.

I got an above average system (going lux) without losing my steering wheel controls, added a dual 10'' sub, intergrated a backup camera DVD player and Laptop computer, and I'm very happy.

The alternative was a more exspensive, better sounding, complete upgrading of all components and losing some functionality of factory components.

I have an above average system too, without losing my steering wheel controls, adding 3 10" JLs, new components all the way around, Alpine W200 up front, rear hitch camera, carputer, integrated the rear DVD, and on screen iPod integration, and Im very happy. Ive lost no factory functionality.

Ive heard the LUX system in escys and stuff, and I just dont think there is any way it can hold a candle to well designed SQ system with aftermarket parts. The factory LUX stuff is soooo bank too!

I went the whole aftermarket route. Pioneer in-dash, all aftermarket speakers, two amps, 1 10" sub, back up camara. Sounds great. I used the PAC stuff to retain the steering wheel controls and door chimes. I love it.

Hey Dreamin'

How did you intergrate your laptop? I'm thinking of hooking up my tiny sony
11" screen laptop to my truck rather than spend 2k on the pioneer AVIC Z2 plus adapters. I can hook the laptop up to the sound via an adapter into the factory head unit. Can I hook the computer into the truck computer? Any other suggestions would be great.
Thanks,

Special Ed

That's what I'm screaming!! I hate Blose.

I have sound and video hooked in from the laptop. No actual "link" to the truck computer other than the OBD adapter (can't get the live diagnostic software to work with this Windows Vista crap). I have a wireless mouse and can scroll/view my MP3s playing on the Nav screen (laptop screen viewable on the navigation screen, need to take pic). Nothing fancy. There are also two back seat LCD screens for the kids (all hooked together). Movies on long trips keeps them happy.;)

As for the "I hate blose" comment... To each his own. I'm not paying $1,100 +/- for the stereo option then turn around and rip it all out to start over again. That's a waste!

dont buy it then! Some GM oem sucks. My next truck wont have blose so i canput in a good system, no onstar to spy on me, cloth so i can put in nice Katzkin or Stitchcraft leather interior, no sunroof so i can get a nice Webasto that slides INTO the roof, etc.

I believe one can do better with aftermarket.

The Lux Bose found in the top tier Gm's and Escalades is a pretty good system by itself. If I had a vehicle with the Lux Bose already in it, I would leave it in there due to the fact that removing and replacing it with aftermarket is a "Damn job".

It's only time and money and with enough of both, you can have one helluva sound system.:)

Bose LUX touch screen NAV w/ 6CD change in mine (LUX touch screen, LUX amp & 6 cd changer from an Escalade). I'm one of many that did that mod..... the whole LUX upgrade. Well worth it... if you can handle a lot of rewiring/dash moding/getting reprogramed.

Depends on want you want to do..... I went with the factory GM look w/ way better sound then the bose truck prem. sound. Also to add, I added rear tweakers for additional sound...and looks stock. (all pics in my Garage).

I like the stock look and function. The LUX upgrade is worth it IMO even if you don't want to go the TNR route. I just did the amp with my OEM single disc and am very happy. Sound quality is 5X better than with the premium amp. Can you do better with aftermarket? Of course, but I have never personally liked aftermarket systems.

I am thinking about getting the LUX upgrade. Where would be the best place to buy the LUX? I have the Bose single disc CD player in mine now. Is there a certain part number to get?

It sounds like the after market is the way to go. I like the look of the factory NAV but I think I could do the aftermarket route cheaper with maybe a Double DIN unit esp. after having to go through all of that to get it programed wired etc... Has anyone done an aftermarket NAV system without an additional amp? how did it compare to their factory system?
