: AirLift and MBRP Cool Duals
BlackMax Canada 10-05-2007, 06:52 PM Anyone have Airlift SuperDuty Air Springs and MBRP Cool Duals?
Let me know if anyone else has had trouble with airbags not fitting with an aftermarket exhaust.
As you can see from the pics, there is NO WAY they'd survive.
I ordered them thinking they were the ones that had brackets bolted to the outside of the frame and to the top of the spring....Turned out these are the only ones made for 2500HD's which fit in place of the bump stops
I really like the design of the Airlift and even had the SureSet in cab electronic controller ready to install.
Looks like a no go though.
Thanks 06Bowtie_guy (Two-Stacks) for your help, although I got nothing done that day except cutting the grass!!!

06bowtie_guy 10-05-2007, 09:48 PM Anytime. Always like messing around with trucks. Really sucks it didn't work out though. I was hoping to get em on then we could put my truck on the float and test em.
Thanks for the beer!! :p:
Let me know when ya get some time available. Time for some grizzlies to tear up the trails again.
KSU_Wildcat 10-05-2007, 10:22 PM I have the cool duels with the firestone bags though. I have somewhat of the same problem. The ride rite kit has one heat shield and I made another for the other side. I have less than 1/2 inch from bag to exhust. My R/H upper mount bracket corner also hits the exhust. I am just going to trim the bracket to get the clearence I need for that. In the mean time I have some heat resistant wear stripping where it rubs. It is attached with zip ties. I took a 200 road trip with my camper and watched and see if I melted the zip ties and it never did. In fact it didn't look like it got hot at all. I am not sure what temp you are getting that far back but it scares me to have my bags that close.
BlackMax Canada 10-06-2007, 07:57 AM Thanks KSU. On the Drivers side, I already have the pipe as tight to the shock as possible already so there's no room for me to tweak the pipe back any more.
The passanger side is the same. I did a mock up fit on the DS first as it seemed the worst.
I will have to return the bags and go without, or go to stacks to eliminate the exhaust pipe clearance issue. Hmmmmmm.
........:D
Eddysel 10-06-2007, 08:17 AM Just a tip.
Take those masonry blocks and get rid of them. Use wood instead. If you insist on using the blocks turn the so the webs face up/down. An aquaintence was crushed to death when his blocks collapsed with him under the car. A ford escort IIRC.

X2
My crew cab weighs over 7,000 lb. Drop a masonry block on the ground a couple times, and see how long it takes to break. Work safe.
cowboyjer 10-06-2007, 08:51 AM Wildcat dude, I see that you have properly accessorized your truck (KSU tag). Are you headed to Manhattan today to see the beatdown of the hawks?
BlackMax Canada 10-06-2007, 02:23 PM Great...when I need help with masonry blocks I'll know who to ask.
....FYI the axle is already supported by stands and the masonry blocks were used to help gain a little more clearance by lifting under the frame.
No crush potential there, but thanks for your concern
DA INFERNO 10-06-2007, 11:51 PM I have bags and cool duels. No problems and no close calls. Check the garage.

Hey Thanks DA!! This was what I was looking for.
...although I think your lift makes a huge difference. See Pic #1 of my original post. With stock height the DS rear shock is more on an angle and I've already tweaked the pipe so that it can be as far back as possible without hitting the shock - brake line, etc. I simply dont have the room.
Yours with the increased height, the tails can be pulled back to make room for the bags and still not hit the shock.
BTW, very nice truck!!
....I'm still considering Stacks!!!

skleppy 10-07-2007, 05:46 PM If you go for stacks...I'd be interested in your exhaust. What kind isit 304, 409 etc.

Whaddaya think about the matte black or "black chrome" I think it would look pretty sweet with a couple 6"ers.
Think I seen some on here somewhere, or at least they're available.
06bowtie_guy 10-09-2007, 01:05 PM On your truck black chrome would be sweet. DO IT!!! :)

do a mock-up fit first. I have the cool duals, might be different with yours...looks like single?
You have to dip, twist, swivel, and jam that bottom bracket onto the axle jounce plate.
thats after you figure out inboard / outboard drivers side A and Passanger side B bolt holes.... with air fitting different facing on each side.
....took a few beers, but was quite disappointed when I concluded will not fit.
Dont despair yet...
