Bought my truck used about 3 months ago. Seems to ride OK, but it has 60,000 miles and I was concerned about the shocks. It is a 2003 model. The part number on the front shocks is 22174051 lM (OC). Does anyone know if these are the stock shocks or something else. Like I said, the ride is pretty good. Any good way to check the wear, I bounce the truck up and down (like you do for a car) and the truck hardly moves. Thanks.

When in doubt, spend the $260 on Bilsteins (or Ranchos, if you prefer)

You will NOT regret it.
60,000 miles is pushing it on stockers. They just aren't that good.

HD Trucks are awful hard to bounce by hand to tell if the shocks are toast.

If the shocks are not some obnoxious color, (read something other than OEM colored), chances are they are stock and toast.

I put my Rancho's on at about 3600 miles and the rears were already leaking and sticking.

Chances are you have stocks, but if no one chimes in, I still have not thrown out my old stockers and could positively verify the number you read is stock.

Don't know if your '03 has the same numbers, but the original front shocks on my '05 which I changed at 500 miles are numbered 15206300, by Tenneco.
Correction: number should read 15206800.

Started reading about shocks back in April when I joined DP. Consensus was that stock shocks were failing and just plain bad. I took my 03 in and said change the shocks. My mechanic said a little early to change shocks don't you think. Truck was a little over year old. Called back couple hours later and said good call on shocks. All 4 were bad. Two of them when compressed would not return. The other 2 were leaking. Truck had 25K on it. I would say change them and be done with it. I went with Monroe shocks, lifetime warranty. I do have Rancho 9000 adjustables on my 05

i put a set on of bilsteins at 60k, i drive alot, but did not notice the big difference that i heard about them here, my truck might be a bit heavery with the box slip tank and might make the stock shocks ride a bit better with less sharper rebound but the big difference for me was not there, my two cents

Maybe it had something to do with my heavier aftermarket wheel & tire combo, But it just didn't feel like the stock shocks were controlling them very well.

The Bilsteins made all the difference in the world on my truck!

At $260. it's well worth the piece of mind.
