any advice will be appreciated
silverbk 11-28-2004, 12:13 PM It sounds like you need a new glow plug controller, which is the most common part to fail in the glow plug system.
After you replace the controller cycle your plugs and make sure they all work, a failure of one or two will give you a hard start, three or more forget it.
aperock03 11-28-2004, 03:04 PM is there a way to diagnose if the gp controler has failed?
any help will be appreciated
Texas Diesel Guy 11-28-2004, 06:30 PM Did you check the fuse?
aperock03 11-29-2004, 08:25 PM i looked in the fuse box/panel, but could not find a fuse for, or at least labeled glow plugs,
could it be inline? and not in the fuse box?
aperock03 11-30-2004, 08:39 PM so there is 12v comming to the relay form the the bat. but nothing is leaving
i pulled the GP and they look good,
lart
er
Texas Diesel Guy 12-01-2004, 06:23 PM check the connector that plugs into the controller to see if you get power when you turn the key on, I dont know which pin, just see if one gets hot, thats all you want to know. If you have a hot relay wire to the controller and its not powering the other side, you need a controller, if you dont' have relay power, then thats your problem.

Without cold adwance switch
cougarjohn 12-04-2004, 06:50 PM You can bypass the glow plug controller by jumping the solenoid to provide power to the glow plugs. If you have the Delco 60G glow plugs then jump the solenoid for 15-20 seconds and then crank the engine. Have one person jump the solenoid and another person crank the engine. If you have the dangerous Delco 9 or 11 or the Champion glow plugs then don't jump for more than 10 seconds at the most as it is possible to mushroom the tips and then you are in trouble. If you don't have the Delco 60G's then do yourself a huge favor by throwing away all of the ones you have and put in the 60G's.
You can't tell if a glow plug is bad by looking at it unless it is burned through. Check your plugs with an ohm meter.
aperock03 12-04-2004, 07:04 PM so i replaced the glow plug relay, and checked 4 of the glow plugs. none of them are mushroomed. i even checked them with an ohm meter.
so: the glow plugs are working,
i replaced the diesel in the tank and cleaned out the system.
i bleed the injector lines: (fuel is going throught the injection pump and to the injectors) so i asume the IP is okay.
but the engine will not turn over
when i crank it, it sounds like it is going to start, but when you let go of the key: nothing
any help please
Jesse
Texas Diesel Guy 12-04-2004, 11:37 PM Maybe you need a starter or batteries instead, the engine has to be turning over pretty fast to start.
aperock03 12-07-2004, 08:54 PM the batteries are ar 12v. and it sounds like the starter is good.
still wont start.
any other advoice
ahaldor 12-08-2004, 02:57 PM Check the fuel shuthdown solenoid. Disconnect the connector on the solenoid(pink wire). Turn the key ON. Touch the connector to the solenoid. If a "click"sound is heard, the solenoid is operating.
Good luck!
Texas Diesel Guy 12-08-2004, 08:45 PM Is your GP indicator lighting up on the dash now?
Check the drain on the fuel filter base while the engine is cranking to see if you have good supply pressure, put a rubber hose on it and run it into a bucket and look for air bubbles too.
