: Rear leaf spring slap

Like most of the trucks, the rear leaf spring slap pads
disintegrated on my truck. They were gone in a few
thousand miles. I spent some time with GM yesterday
and checked out the problem. New parts have been
made and there is a TSB on the issue, but the dealer
would not pay for me to try the new parts. But I checked
the new parts at the parts counter, and they are the same
easy-crack plastic as the originals.

So I contacted Energy Suspensions and have ordered the 9.9132
bumpers. I will try these and report back if they are viable
replacements for the stock parts. There is a chance I can
get a run of direct replacement parts made up in urethane for
those of you tired of the stock spring slap.

Finally I got a few minutes to try this out.
The mod is EASY. 10 minutes for all 4.

Just get 4 stainless washers to make the fit a bit better.

1) take all the parts out of the boxes
2) jack up front spring perch
3) use a screwdriver to unload the spring just a bit
4) pop in the new piece
5) add washer and tighten nut
6) repeat for the other 3 positions.

Cheap, easy, fast, effective.

Put this one in the DIY list?

Mine are making a really loud slap, even when going around like an incline when turning, but non of the pads seem to be worn out. I dont know what to do, its driving me crazy.

Might want to check out the threads on greasing the yoke on the driveshaft. I believe these two sounds could be mistaken for one another.

Frank_EP thanks for the info. I'm also tired of listening to my noisy springs. I'm going to order 2 pair of the bumpstops as soon as possible.
