: Fumoto Oil Drain Valve
PalmValleyGMC 11-27-2004, 07:31 PM Has any one installed a Fumoto oil drain valve ? I have only had to change my oil once so far in my truck and I'm already looking for an easier way, other than unbolting all but one bolt on the skid plate just to move it out of the way so the oil doesn't collect there. I was a little unsure of having a valve on my oil pan but I found a place that sells a stainless safety clip that keeps it (the valve) from turning unintentionally. So I'm really considering it now. What do you think ?
partsguy662 11-27-2004, 07:37 PM Get one, you won't regret it...Personally, I don't think you need the clip on the "trigger" to open the valve...Conditions would have to be absolutely right (or wrong in this case) to open that valve unintentionally...Also, I recommend the fumoto with the hose nipple on it since you can put a hose on it directly to your oil can, drain pan, sewer):h, or neighbor's water supply:D...It makes changing oil far more enjoyable and far less mess...

LOL The sewer........ isn't that where everyone drains their oil ?
What size hose fits on there and how far does the valve stick out past the oil pan ?
dmaxalliTech 11-28-2004, 10:33 AM Fumoto is the only way to go.. Many venders here sell them
jlan8 11-29-2004, 09:13 AM Best $25 you will ever spend on a truck! I got the one with the hose nipple and just used it the first time this weekend. Push the hose on the nipple. Stick the other end in a 15 quart drain can (wal-mart). Open the valve and walla! No oil to clean up!
Good luck with it.

Mylash 11-29-2004, 12:11 PM I have used the Fumoto valves on my other trucks for years, on road, off road, in mud, in snow, in desert scrub, and I have never had the valve open. It makes changing the oil much easier in all circumstances, and my new Kodiak is getting one this month.

hamsalad 11-29-2004, 01:13 PM Just installed my Fumoto valve yesterday. Man, it's gonna be SO easy to change oil from now on!
PalmValleyGMC 11-29-2004, 04:31 PM Thanks for all the replies. Ya'll convinced me I won't have a problem , so I already ordered it. I did get the stainless locking ring, for a dollar you can't beat that for piece of mind !!!
lakingslayer 11-29-2004, 06:54 PM My first oil change I dropped the plug in the drain tank fill hole and the oil started flowing all over my garage floor :( It was a pain in the Censored to get it out due to the oil being hot and I don't jack my truck up. I put the Fumoto on this last oil change so the next one should be much smoother even though I haven't dropped the factory plug the last two changes.
CODiesel 11-30-2004, 03:14 PM Well, I'm convinced....http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/smile.gif
Just ordered a Fumoto Drain valve from www.gmdieseltech.com (http://www.gmdieseltech.com/).
Are there any special installation procedures such as torque?
Thanks for the information, maybe now I will only have to clean out the skid plate one more time!!http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
The Original Diesel 11-30-2004, 03:50 PM I simply cut out a small section of the skid plate so the oil would drain directly into the drip pan. I like the idea of the valve but I wanted to keep the magnet on the factory drain plug. Every oil change I have to clean the magnet off and the thought of those pieces floating around in my oil bothers me.:D

Remove three bolts. Swing skid plate out of the way.

Yeah I hear ya !! Mine didn't come with a magnet on the plug so it wasn't a hard decision to go with the valve.

Thanks for the idea but I still like the idea of the valve, hose it directly into the drain container, quick and easy..............I hope. Plus laying in the snow and mud.....I'll go with progress/technology.(Dont have a shop or concrete, have to pay for my toys!!):o
use some aluminum foil to direct the flow into yiour drain pan, for the oil change before you install the drain vavle. keeps floors clean. A zip lock for the oil filter keeps things clean as well

Wow, my last truck as well as my new truck have the magnet drain plugs........ Must be cutbacks:D

That was for changing the oil that last time before putting the Fumoto valve on. That way you don't have to clean the oil out of the skid plate. I know what I am talking about. I also installed the Fumoto. Last oil change would have been the cleanest one I have ever done if I had gotten the drain pan all the way under the oil filter.
a_chevelle 12-01-2004, 11:42 AM Ok you guys got me buyin' one now. My first oil change was 6 quarts in pan and 3½ quarts on foor and ½ quart on me!:(

Thanks Darin....
I was happy to see the oil filter location. My 89 5.7 gasser had the oil filter directly over the front driveshaft. When it drained it drained right through the U-Joint making quite the mess.
When installing the Fumoto valve, is the valve handle location adjustable or just is it fixed and dependent on where the threads tighten?
Thanks again for the info..........

The handle is fixed. Where it winds up just depends on where the threads get tight. I know what you mean. Had the same problem with my 98. Filter would drain on the front drive shaft/u-joint.
lakingslayer 12-01-2004, 04:52 PM Fixed. With mine I didn't have to over torque it to get it so the valve handle was on top.
LanduytG 12-01-2004, 07:52 PM Do not over tighten the valve just to get the handle on top. You CAN and WILL break them.
