How many people that have had injector problems run some kind of fuel treatment in every tank?

Is that to be expected? I bought my '02 D/A November '06 with 80K miles. I've put another 20K on it in less than a year. I'm getting a little antsy about the possibility of a $6-8000 repair bill hanging over my head when the extended injector warranty runs out on me next year (7 years time in service).

I bought mine this year with 74,000 and have put 10,000 on it so far. I run a good amount of Howes in every fill up, and occasionally work it hard. I havent had any problems yet except for a weird noise coming from the steering column. 2003 gmc 2500 cc

Should we be putting DieselKleen in every tank when we fill up (we do)? We haven't had to do anything with the injectors yet, but this discussion is scaring me a little bit.
Dieselmania6, we also had problems with the steering column. Living on dirt roads, it seemed to be loose whenever we hit the washboards. Seems there was a recall on it. Took it to the dealer and had them replace it. Might be worth a call to them.

I sure hope you dont pay 6 or 8 grand for an injector job. Last one for my truck cost me a little over 2800 bucks. For 6 or 8 grand you can put a motor in it. Rebuilt injectors run about 175.00 each after core charges which is about 1120 bucks. Tack on another 1500 for labor, and new seals if they dont come with it,plus valve cover gaskets and it comes out about right. At least thats what it cost me,and that was at my dads GM dealership.

Well diesel treatment is really cheap. I had a tech tell me that the reason for the injector problems was becasue people werent using any kind of treatment in the fuel. I think that isnt true, but Im curious to see if it has prolonged the time before injector failure. Maybe someone should start a poll? And the steering column thing skidooin, did yours make a weird noise when you turned it one way or the other? Mine only does it when I turn to the left and it has only done it a couple of times.

2nd filter, Stanadyne p/f since day 1, New injectors last week at 90,000 miles. You tell me the answer!! Going to just put lubrication from now on.

I dont think it matters if you run something or not. The seals can go out of the injectors causing them to leak fuel into the pistons causing the smoke. Its not always the tip of the injector getting gummed up. Ive never had a set gummed up on me,its always the damn seals going out and causing the smoking. I made it past 100000 miles till my first set, have seen people run nothing and get 150000 miles with no problems, sounds like a luck thing to me. Until someone comes up with a better injector I think we're all screwed its just a matter of when.

Don't let sparky see that......there is no evidence to suggest anything of the sort.....LOL

Yea I'm having problems with my new 01 duramax it's blowing smoke on idle and it has 155,000 miles on it. Are the injector water cooled?

Maybe I am of the wrong understanding. The service manager at my dealership (who happens to be a fishing buddy), and the tech at my local pump & injection service both told me that a lot of the failures in our injectors are from dryed seals, not getting enough lube from the diesel sold today with the ULSD. And the injector tech said it's NOT JUST GM that all manufacturers are having issues with injectors. Did both of these guys lie to me on seperate occassions?
I run the Stanadyne Performance add. in mine, have ever since my injectors were replaced. I figure for less than $2 a tank, what's the harm...... I certainly notice it runs quiter with than without...... $2 a tank extra is NOTHING compared to the risk of $2-3K. And if it don't work..... well at least I felt some peace all those times I cranked it while I was running the add.! IMHO

Yea, for the cheap price of the additives, if it works it works, if not, oh well. Atleast you tried something, I run it all the time because im up north and need it for winter so I just use it all the time. I think your right about the dried out seals, seems to make sense with the new ULSD. Up north I can run straight LSD so maybe im just lucky that mine havent went out yet. What about biodiesel?

Hey! That hurts.:Wedgie:

The LB7 failures seem to be unique. I know Ford is having lots of problems, not just injectors (why else would they be fighting Navistar?), put I am not sure how those are failing, if they are.

Lancer I agree with what your buddies say. The seals are what goes out of mine. I use an additive every time I fill up. Between my 2 dmaxs I have put 6 sets of injectors in. All of them have been due to the seals. I religously use additives in my fuel. I dont know if they work or not. The 2 bucks each fill up is cheap insurance, but Im not convinced it does any good.

I put additive in every time i fill up and , so far , no problems here ,but my truck had new injectors put in before i got it. Thanks to the vin check guys on this website, had new injectors at 48,xxx and now has 82,xxx and runs like a champ. I was just wondering how much additive everyone is putting in at every fill up?

Read this about your noise, Myself and many more have the issue

As for the additives, I wish I knew the answer, I do standyne every other tank, was running the 2 stroke and vered away from that. Truck is on 2nd motor due to injector cup failure.
