Aren't you afraid of FCensored ing up the longevity of your engine.

I know everyone on this board is fairly well educated on how motors and motor development works. GM built/installed these engines after thousands of hours of testing as they were put in our trucks sans the EDGE.

I personally had my used truck checked to make sure an EDGE had not been installed (it wasn't) before I bought it. I don't want one that's been "EDGED". How many others agree?

(And if you're a "I don't give a chit baby, I need the power" type of guy............More power to ya :D )

Just curious.......

There really is not anyway for you to know if the truck was chipped before or not.

You are one of those as well! Twin 496 HO's in your boat? Let me see, the last time I checked a 496 is a stroked 454. Do you think GM tested the 454 in 496 trim?

The Juice is not a foolproof enhancement. You can get into trouble with it if you don't know what you're doing, like towing heavy on the upper settings.

GM and other manufacturers must "Idiot-proof" their products as much as possible. Limped Allisons would be very bad for their bottom line. This is fairly easy to do with the juice, and very difficult with a stock tune.

Jess.......Was refering to the EGT sensor for the "Attitude" Monitor. Believe you have to drill a 5/16" hole and tap it with a 1/8 " npt tap to mount the sensor. I'm not sure where this happens in the exhaust/manifold. My guy looked for that. He's an installer of these products so me tinks he knows what to look for......I don't know chit......He did say a lot of people don't opt for the attitude?? and just go for the box.......He also said you can tell if someones been connecting and unconnecting where the harness terminates to the connector....hell, I don't know....:D :D .....

Are you asking because you don't want anyone to see where yours was...??):h

Hey ya Canuk.........

Sorry but you don't quite have your facts straight on the motors......The 496 is the standard 8.1L block that GM has been using for many years.

It's a standard motor package that Mercruiser offers. The 496 Mag is a 375 HP version of the 496, The HO (high output) package is 425 horsepower. The HO is the last version of the fuel injected big block before you go to their blue motor line (pure race - blown,ie....the 525SC, or 575SC or now the freaggin 1075SC...$75K)

Either way, they're bone stock.......And I like it that way.....Even though AZ speed and marine makes a 650HP kit(normally aspirated, fuel injected) for the 496.....):h

Sane - i dont think that seeing a tapping somewhere is indicative of an edge being installed, it could be for EGT's only. also, alot of people dont run the attitude like you mentioned and i really dont think looking at the harness is going to tell you 100% that it was messed with or not or in what manner. also, alot of people run programmers or custom pcm's, again, no way of telling what was there at one time

Not everyone who has a tuner rips the H*** out of their truck either. I baby mine - but it's also a hobby. Just nice to say "I have one" and when I finally do have one it probably will never see level 4 & 5. I'll probably never come close to towing near the capacity of this truck.

I hear ya....I started this to see what people thought of their mods (edge/juice)......It's not a debate as to whether or not someone can find out if their truck was modified. I agree, especially if you never had the attitude, you'd never be able to tell.......My guy checked and said it didn't look "to him" like an edge had ever been installed......Not a big deal other than it gave me a slightly better comfort level that my truck hadn't been run on the five setting by some nimrod that doesn't take care of his chit.......;)

Poll the world of used D'max buyers and ask them which truck they'd buy....

1) The one that's a year old that's had an EDGE box installed since new
2) The one that's a year old that's bone stock.....

That's all I'm asking.........And I'd buy the one that hasn't been modified....Just my humble opinion.......

Some people have no sense of humor... Man lighten up.. It was a joke... Think you need to have a drink and chill out.. I have been alot faster in a boat than most and still wanted to go faster. Trust me, I know what fast is and while your boat might be fast and you are happy with that, then that is what you are use too, more power to you. However, I know what 160 mph in a 46 Skater Cat is and 137mph in 47 Apache Vee bottom.. Not sure I would want to go much faster in anything smaller.

As for my own personal boat, I sold my boat about 5 years ago. I had a 31 Cigarette Bullet. Awesome boat with nice power and plenty fast for my taste in something that small. Now I am looking for something else, maybe a fishing boat, Bertram or something or another Cigarette or Outerlimits. I am really taken with then new 47Q Outerlimits and Cigarette has a very nice Tiger... We shall see.. Good luck with your truck and WELCOME!!!...

We take some time to get use to and then you will fit right in..:D

Can't go for the geek beek on the Fountains......Got a very good friend with a 36' Motion Cat with triple 250XS's............It's sweet at speed and sounds extremely calm doing it.....I've been about 120 in it but he was breaking it in......Dunno what it'll do now......

BTW.....Didn't know the sig would bring as much attention as it did......Always good to see who shows up first.......On another board it's the trucks start the flaming.........

Being "tuned" doesn't say anything about how it was treated. A conversation about the owners insurance rates might reveal that.

if you were going to buy a used boat would you rather see one with very few hours of use or some reasonsable amount of hours to show it was run with care? Same analogy with the truck with or with out the chip.

Sane Asylum,

I'd buy used all day.........Boat I have now, had 85 hours and I knew the owner (very good friend of mine)....Had all the service records (he's anal as hell). I still had a marine survey done for resale purposes and to keep the history up. He paid about $142K for it and ate about 60K in depreciation when he sold it to me. He was sitting on two boats (He had just bought a 36' Motion Cat at the Miami boat show) and he wanted to sell, plus, he's got plenty discretionary income:D :D . Sometimes a great deal comes along. It took me almost seven months to find the boat I wanted. (painful being without a boat that long :( as I had sold my Baja 25' Outlaw about a week after I listed it on e-bay......

I can't speak for all used boat buyers but I think if one does the research and is patient, and I mean patient. It's very easy to fall into the trap of "the guy was very nice to meet me out and water test it, so I'm obligated to buy it now". Believe it or not some people feel like that. I don't.........I tested 13 boats and about half the folks were pissed that I didn't buy. The other group understands that it's part of the process. I personally would enjoy taking someone out for a ride in a badass boat and havng their jaw drop........

Just my humble .02 cents worth......

Boats are easier to check out used, than a truck.

Boats will show cracks in the gelcoat. Cleanliness of the hull/interior. Bilge, too. Check along the hull for "touch up" jobs from poor docking skills. Skegs on outdrives. See if they have been repaired. Ask around at the local marinas about the boat. Check with menchanics, etc.... Marine engines get modded and are usually left that way. Put the trottle to the stops and nothing left to do but hang on.

Trucks are a completely different animal. You MAY be able to get a feel for the wear on the tires and the milage on the truck. Engine can be modded and easily and quickly removed. Trans could be toasted. Problems don't show up as well.

I will be towing the first one, not owning. My friend is the one who will be owning the first one. Look under the Sunsation folder on offshoreonly in the F4 thread for postings by Mentalpause. That is my friend who will own the first one. In the pictures posted under that thread, I'm the dork in the orange shirt standing up in the cabin. I'm 5'11" and you can see I have room above my head in there. Sunsations rock. My friend's 2000 32 Dominator with 454MAGs had over 400 hours on it at the Lake of the Ozarks and there was not one spider crack in the gel, not one screw loose. Great boats built by great people.
