Hi all. First diesel, first post. Let me start by saying that I've learned more in the short time reading this forum, than the whole year I owned my truck up until I found this place...so thanks! :)

K back to business, just got some new 60g's, GP controller, 2 optimas and cables. I figuired while I was putting these in I would do a manual glow duration switch, since it can get fairly cold sometimes here in WA.

I'm going to buy a Ford starter relay and do it that way other than the SSdiesel kit. I read the FAQ and searched it but am still in the dark on exactly how to wire it up and how it all works together with the factory setup. If it's already been covered and Im missing it just point me in the right direction.

1st welcome to the site :welcome2: ;

with stock compression you probably won't need to do extended glow I'd try it with stock set up 1st, also your factory glow relay will work fine you won't need extra relay, just a momentary on push button to make it pre glow 1st, more later when I can pull up the picture I need to reference.

Also you need to update you signature so we know of which vehicle we are talking about.

Been there done that Regina & Moosejaw area, working TCPL, almost spent Christmas there one year trying to get end of year project finished, 1st place I had ever been to with power plugs in hotel parking lot, had never experienced that before, even recommended for gassers to plug in.

He is in Wa so maybe it could cause him problems, trying 60s themselves is free, Chris why did you not just energize the factory relay, it is hot always even with the key off, you would have just needed to put a momentary on switch to energize the control leg of the factory relay; unless you don't/didn't think the factory relay was up to task of extended glow sessions

I was wondering the same thing...but if you had it hooked to the battery instead of from the factory relay, you would have a backup plan if/when the factory setup failed. right?

Most days I seem to be alright, but there is those few times in the winter where I wished I had a manual switch. Over all It seems to be an easy and cheap mod that could come in handy.

Sweet thanks guys. I think i got all my questions answered on this now.

I mounted my Furd relay on the bracket that holds the wastegate solenoid (just in front of the factory relay). This reduced the length of 8 gauge wire needed to jump the factory glow relay. Just a thought.

TD - all I am doing with my manual override is jumping the factory GP relay...
