I dont know if it does anything because I took it off the first week I owned the truck, put a 2" pipe cap on it from home depot.

That box your talking about. Ive heard it called a "boost box". Its suppose hold air under constant load/engine speed and when you floor it, it releases that air to the engine. Ive heard this from CAT, Onan/Cummins, Kholer, Perkins, etc.(Generator Dealers/Techs/Engineers) Ive also heard the Chevy dealership say this.Sorry I cant really explain it better.

Its a resonator. Plain and simple. Do a search here for "resonator" and you'll come up with a million threads about it. It silences the air entering your engine. Many people take it off and plug it.

On this particular aplication it doesn't make any sence that it does that. The air in the intake is not pressurised, it's under vaccum. And there is no way to "release" the air,, its just an open hole into the 6.6 box,, no valve or anything.

It suppose to have that air in the "box" available before the air filter. Im not saying your wrong or right but this is what was explained to me.

Whats that mean?

It silences the air...Thats it...It provides absolutely no other purpose other than to "resonate" the air. Just about every vehicle on the market has one or more. Take it off and plug it with a 2" quick cap from Home Depot or Lowes.

It's part of the reason that these new diesels are so quiet

It's there so if you ever drive through deep water the motor can breath for a minute, like holding your breath swimming.:D

So I guess it could save weight coming off. Any other reason?

I filled mine with nitrous. That way when I floor it I get an extra kick.

Do a search on "Helmholtz Resonator". That thread states the resonator functions to improve the air flow into the turbo. It makes sense that it would hurt performance to remove it.

X2. It serves a purpose. Leave it.

ok ill leave it, mainly just wanted to see the motor more but if it helps the turbo ill leave it on there.

I took mine off yesterday and it certainly makes the engine and turbo louder. You can hear the exhaust like sound of the engine gulping air, you can also hear the turbo more when you shut the engine off. It makes a cool roaring sound.

Its amazing how much sound that little bubble stops.
