Guys, I'm having an issue with my tailgaite latch. I have an 07 LBZ old body style classic with about 8K miles. I never abluse my truck and keep it in the best shape I can. but, When I open the tailgate, it opens fine. But, when I try to close it, the passenger side/ side latch will not reset and allow the tailgate to lock in. I took it to the local chevy delership and was told I only needed to spray some lube on it such as WD40 once and a while....... he did this and the tail gate worked right for a little while, now I am having the same issues of not closing and locking. I'm thinking a part need to be replace. the last thing I think I should be doing is spray lube in a sticky part once a month.....

Think its a defected part, should I insist the dealership replace the latch giving me problems.

And on a second note: My "Check Brakes" light comes on once and a while, Ive checked fluids and not sure what is going on. I don't have a code box, but thing i should buy one now for the long haul.

Any thoughts??????:(

2 very basic concerns, take it back and the repair should be a simple one.

For the tail gate issue, WD40 is not a lube, so it will evaporate and leave you in the same condition. You can use some of GM's Super Lube or equivalent. I live on a gravel road and see this issue now and again. I removed the handle from the tailgate and used grease and worked it in. Seems to do pretty well for me. You need to watch the plastic bezel though, when you re install it, it is known to break. They are a $20 part, so no huge issue if it breaks, but just FYI...

THANKS GUYS, I appricate the recommedations I'm taking my truck in to the dealership again today and have them fix the tailgate (without WD-40 this time).

Not sure why my "check breaking system" flashed up, then out each time I start up. I'll ask them to check that will its there too....:)

If it is only doing it at start up, that's normal.

About the only thing a can of WD-40 is good for is target practice. Get a can of Penephite from Kano Labs or a can of spray lube with graphite in it.

the striker needs to be adjusted. Take a T-40 and loosen the striker a few turns, you can move up,down, left, right until you think it's good then tighten her up! repeat until happy :D

Dmax see if the spring is broke in the latch on the side of the tailgate. Just ordered a new one for mine today. Mine was really hard to close also. It even broke the handle from slamming it so hard. By the way thats a pain to change out.

One of mine fell off (I had a washer/dryer loaded in the truck at the time and thought it went to that...so I lost it) I figured out what it was and had to buy one at GM... $9 for it I think.

Anyways, my tailgate was always loose and I figured it out. The one that was still there was on backwards. So it was not doing it's job.

My passenger side started bouncing off the latch on the first try so I lubed the heck out of it but it didn't help. I finally realized the tailgate was riding up slightly on the hinge so I cleaned and greased it and now it works great.
