There are some who do not have the XM and 6 disc changer who might be interested. I would think you should be able to get a good dollar for it.

Offer it to poor people who bought a fleet prepped vehicle.. My kodiak doesn't even have a cassette. I would offer a couple of hundred for such a thing, if it fit the dash.

Don't forget it will have to be programmed to the new vehicle. This usually requires calling Techline to get a VCI #. Also, if it is a Bose unit, it will only work in Bose equipped trucks, as they have a seperate amplifier.

They are popular....I would say you could get $300 for the unit, but since you have the XM stuff, it could be more. Buying one online you're looking at $545 for the radio alone from www.radiosandmore.com.

Put it on ebay, see what happens. Just make sure to tell what it came out of, and require buyers to find out from their dealer if it will work first, because these newer radios are VERY vehicle specific.....they all need to be programmed into the truck.

I went thru this adventure when I had my 03 1/2 ton and wanted the 6-disk. I learned a lot....

It's not really worth much of anything:D ........but I'll do you a favor and take it off your hands. ;)
Let me know how much. I'm really just interested in the XM unit.

Man if the stock deck is worth something I have one too, stock single cd, no XM. I put my pioneer in right away since I already had it. Didn't know if it was worth starting a thread on the for sale, or if nobody would have any interest.

What's the difference between a delco radio connected to a standard sound system and the delco radio connected to a Pose amp and speakers? One more overpriced than the other....I took apart the CD/tape from my truck (stock Poser) and one from an 03 blazer (no Poser)..put them side by side...same damn thing...

Some of the wires in the harness are different in the same plug. All the same stuff is in all the radios, the difference is the vehicle harness. If the radios are different and a Pose HU won't work in a non-Pose car, you better tell the guy who has my OEM Pose HU in his 99 Grand AM...I guess he's been hearing things the last six months...

Guys,

I went thru hell trying to upgrade to a 6-disk from a standard CD for 6 months in '03... -:t in fact it was one of the reasons (fuel mileage and rear seat access for the kids being the others) that I dumped that POS '03 Chevy gasser for my diesel. I finally gave up and sold the unit on ebay for $295. I even got $275 for the S-10 unit that I initially bought, thinking it would work in the Silverado. (I was wrong)

The head units for both Bose and non-Bose are the same. The differences come from both seen (different speakers and the added amp) and unseen (different programming in the computer) items. The plugs off the backs of the radios are the same. Only diff I saw was the extra plug for the steering wheel controls, but all the radios have a separate socket for that.
During programming, the Tech2 (I think thats what the dealer used) asks if the system is "Bose or non-Bose" plus quite a few other questions and then programs accordingly. Trouble is, you have to find a tech smart enough to know how to program electronics, because you get one shot to program the radio. If you screw up, the radio then locks up. You then have to have the radio "de-programmed" before you can try again. It really pisses you off when the dealer hands you back your radio and says "It won't work, and it locked up on us". I got to know Specmo (Delco radio supplier) real well...nice people, and understanding....

Also, the tech-line dept is NOT the most helpful GM department on the planet. I would imagine those engineers never dreamed that people may want to upgrade their systems!! (duh) They make a theft-proof radio that you have to be Einstein to install! I'd rather not comment on them. Censored

But I digress.

The regular CD radios aren't worth a whole lot, but you may still be able to get $100-150 for it. There were some people out there that bought work trucks without them (imagine that).

The 6-discs are worth more. Bigger demand from people who "shoulda done it" when they ordered the truck. Putting a 6-disc in place of a standard CD is easy, all the wiring is the same, you just have to have the radio programmed into your truck, like described above. GOOOOOD LUCK......

But like I said, radios now are very vehicle specific...you cannot buy a radio from an S-10 for example and put it in your Silverado, like I did initially. You can't even "splice" it in, so to speak, because its not compatible with the Silverado programming.

The radios won't work without being programmed. But they DO make attractive book ends....

Well, thats my .02

So it sounds like you just need a tech that knows how to run his tech-2 and you're set for changing radios.

Anyone know if a 6 disc unit out of an 03-05 truck will work on an '02? Also is the 6 disc offered w/ XM but w/o Bose?

Do you still have the 6 disc changer, factory xm unit and the ant. I might buy it from you if the price is right.

-nar-

Yes....but good luck finding a good tech that knows how. Most will give you a blank stare. That lock-out feature sucks.

3500dmax

nope....radios and wiring completely different. 03+ dependent on vehicle computer to work. 02's are of the old style that you can swap easily in most year GM's. 6-disc can be used both Bose and non-Bose...same headunit.

Does the 6 disc radio physically fit in the dash RADIO location. I thought the 6 disc changer was a seperate unit from the actual tuner?

Due to the fact that I have a Regular cab, I was unable to get BOSE or 6 disc.

Max Power

Yes it will fit in the dash radio location. It is not a seperate unit.

BlueOx03

There are two six disc changers, one in-dash w/o cassette and one is a console mounted slave unit for the CD/cas. IIRC Masterp2 added one to his stocker. Any of the swaps you guys mentioned are possible if you have someone that knows what they are doing. The new radios are all equipped with data recognition and an ignition input, they also have onboard amps. You just gotta know how to wire them up right. To put a six disc in-dash in a pre 03 the big hurtle would be fitting it in the dash. Nak makes a single DIN six disc that would fit. Why not just get an after-market unit that's MP3 compatible?

I should have said that a seperate unit was not available in trucks.

My truck has just Am Fm and my Roady 2. I think Cd is just a fade waiting for 8 track to come back.
