: Tube step help!!!
Romark1 11-25-2004, 09:41 PM I bought a pair of stainless "nerf bars" for my Chevy 2500HD CC. I installed them myself. Piece of cake. After one day of use they started rattling and creaking in the cab. I could pull up and down on them and hear the creaks and groans.
Back to the accessory place to be told that they ran into this on another CC and know how to fix it. The steps mount using brackets bolted to the frame on two cab bolt locations.
Remove two cab bolts, install brackets then bolt steps to the brackets.
When they brought my truck back around, they had bent the two pieces of cab mount webbing away from the step bracket. These brackets are installed between these web/cab mounts.
I hope I am making sense here. Anyway, the driver side still creaks. I don't want more frame bending to make them work.
Any advise? Can anyone recomend another brand of stainless nerf steps beside Grizzley?
Jim659 11-25-2004, 09:48 PM Westin bars perfect fit, tough as nails and take my 220lbs in and out atleast 20 times a day no problem.:)
lovette 11-26-2004, 08:24 AM I have Tech Tube stainless bars on my crew cab. They creaked and squeaked when first installed. I also noticed the original mounting bolts weren't stainless. Went to Home Depot for some replacement stainless bolts, nuts, and washers. I also placed flat rubber washers on both sides of the mounting brackets at all 4 mounting points. Two years later, no squeaks.
Don't know why they don't ship step bars with rubber washers, they're so cheap to include.
sprintmod1 11-26-2004, 10:52 AM Second the motion for Westin bars. Fit perfect and take my 255 pounds in an out all day for almost a year with no problems, barely even flex when I stand on them to clean the windshield!
2Blue 11-26-2004, 02:29 PM I have the Westin Wheel 2 Wheel chromes, very sweet. Rated to 500 lbs even back at the bed. Sure makes reaching into the bed easier!
Easy to install, even by yourself.

Romark1 11-26-2004, 07:11 PM Update:
I had gone to the hardware store to get some supplies to "fix" my steps. While at work last night (I work shift work) I decided "BS!!!, when I wake up this afternoon I am taking these steps off and returning them for some different ones that actually fir right. Which is what I did.
I have a real good accessory dealer in my area. No problem at all. They ordered me some Louverne polished stainless steps. Be in Monday afternoon or Tuesday.
Hopefully will have a better outcome.

Jim659 11-26-2004, 11:50 PM I guess you did'nt read this months four wheeler. They had a big test on all major stainless nerf bars and Louverne came in second to last. They got one star, five was the highest(Westin) Oh well everybody tried to tell you.
Romark1 11-27-2004, 12:00 AM Well Jim you guessed right. (your pretty good) I didn't read the article you mentioned. Didn't know too.
And what did everyone try to tell me? Read the posts. No one said anything about staying away from a particular brand. Read the posts.
Do you have any useful information that makes the Luverne steps so bad.
