below are figures at level ground, and no headwind.

pulling 9000# 5er - 10.5 at 65mpg
19.5 mpg - 60mph
18.5 mpg - 65mph
17.5 mpg - 70 mph
short trips (less than 35 mpg town) 13.5 to 14.5

I have a Kodiak. These figures are from mixed driving.

Grossing 26,000# interstate at 65mph - 9.4 mpg
Grossing 15,000# interstate at 65mph -11.6 mpg
empty wt 10,000# interstate at 65mph -14.6 mpg
empty wt 10,000# local roads@35mph -11.5 mpg

The current mileage on the truck is 5,000 miles, so the fuel economy is probably not set yet. I have heard of people getting 16mpg with Kodiaks, it would be nice if mine will do that when it settles in.

17.9 on the interstates with 2500 lb load. (70 to 75 mph) Almost as good in town at 16.8 to 17 with no load.

Just about 20 mpg running empty at 70 mph on the interstates. About 13 towing a 7800 lb 5th wheel on open highways.

Pretty much the same as Johnny O and Mylash. Towing 16-18k lb 5ver toy hauler 65-70-75-80mph, uuuhhh, slow down stupid (lol). I still have a hard time slowing my a$$ down, never could have pulled like this with my gassers! :ro) JJ

are all of these figures using the DIC or hand calculated?

I am getting 16.5 on the hwy @ 70 and 14-15 in town. I thought I would get better.
3200 on my 04.5 LLY. Does it get better with more break-in??

My truck's fuel economy has definitely increased as I put more miles on it. The first ~10k miles or so, I was averaging 16.5-17mpg (unloaded) during daily commutes (which is ~80% highway, but half of that trip is bumper-to-bumper traffic.) Now with almost 30k on the truck, I am consistently averaging 18.5mpg on the same trip. It's been 18.5 for the last ~5000 miles or so.

Mileage is always hand-calculated (I don't have the steering wheel controls.) I always fill the fuel up to the top of the filler neck, so I know I'm always putting the same amount of fuel in the truck. I usually fill up right near 430 miles on the trip meter, and it's consistently ~23 gallons.

All of the above #s are on a completely stock CC 4wd truck, with the exception of a MagnaFlow cat-back and Stanadyne fuel treatment.

I have an Edge programmer, though it hasn't been on the truck for the last 3-4 months. When I used to run it, it was usually good for an extra 1 mpg on level-1.

EDIT: Best mileage I've ever seen out of the truck was on a trip to Indianapolis back in early September. 3 people including myself in the truck, 4 pocketbikes (maybe 40lbs each?), misc. motorcycle gear and 2 coolers. Got almost 21mpg (~20.9) round trip. Truck was stock then too aside from the cat-back exhaust (no fuel conditioner was used.)

that is about what I am getting on mine. its actually gone down and is now increasing with each tank and diesels will get better as they break in

Ran a couple of checks on fuel useage comparing manual calculation against the DIC. Both times the manual showed about a .1 or so mpg better mileage that the DIC. I stick with the DIC figures now knowing it short sheets me a little but keeping detailed records is a PIA. Will probably recheck on next cross country run in May to see if anything has changed. Fuel is about the cheapest part of owning one of these things anyhow. Probably depreciates more dollars just sitting in the garage each month than I can use in fuel. Add to that, the price of good maintenance and insurance costs and fuel is way down the list dollar wise. We're not wise investors.

My round town mpg has improved a bit.. 12.4 today, mostly round town, some rural. All my calculations have to be manual - no DIC.

I'm getting 21-23 Highway at 70 MPH and about 16.5-18 around town. Both are hand calculated and DIC. Took a 400 mile trip a few weeks ago and never had to fill up and still came home with a qaurter of a tank. Truck is stock with the exception of a K&N air filter.

I do mixed driving. My average is 75% highway and 25% stop and go.
65mph highway driving easy around town = 20mpg DIC or 18mpg hand calc.
75mph highway driving a little harder on the peddle around town = 18.4mpg DIC or 16.5mph hand calc.

DIC is always differs from hand calc on number of gallons used. Lately I've been using the same station and same pump on the lowest flow setting. I stop filling at the first time the pump stops.

9 towing 11,000lbs. on the highway staying under 65
13 around town
17 on the highway staying under 75mph
average unhitched 50% city and 50% highway is about 14.5, but I drive fast when not hooked up.
2,600 miles on the odometer, running stanadyne performance formula. Not sure it makes a difference in performance.

Thanksgiving trip - 6 people and luggage
Highway, 60 - 70mph, 19.1 mpg - 350 mile avg
Freeway, 80mph, 16 mpg - 320 mile avg
Snow/slush covered freeway, 4 wheel drive, 45-50mph, 22.2 mpg - 40 mile avg

I was hoping to get better mileage @ 80mph but the R's eat the fuel.
Extremely pleased with the power, never downshifts for anything, just sets you back in the seat and asks for more.

The torque is amazing, I would buy this same power package even if it only averaged 12mpg.!!!

Well since the reflash i have noticed my DIC sure is saying i'm getting better mileage, got 15+(Hand Calc'd, the DIC said 17mpg) towing the boat(3600#) to Lousiana at 65-70mph. almost 90% flat drive from west Houston.

Been getting 18.5-19.5 unloaded driving into work. 40mile round trip.

Hey DuramaxEric

Is that 2WD or 4WD? My best is 17.8 with 4WD.

When I had posted my mpg at the begining of this thread the Predator Tuner ordered hadn't arrived. Well it arrived yesterday:) , plugged it in, loaded the 65hp tune. Then took the truck to the open payment with my son. WOW!:D :D :D Not the same truck:D :D :D . With our lips smackin our ears I leveled speed out to 75mph and looked down at the instant mpg reading: 22 to 26! Expecting it to drop back to the familiar 17.5 mpg I drove for miles, but no change. Then tried various conditions: against the wind, up grades, and different speeds; all were much above what I have seen in the 10k of this truck's life. This seems too good to be true. I'm wondering if the flash tune changed the way the DIC sees the fuel useage (before it was within .5mpg). Even around town the mpg shows much higher. I'm hoping to take a trip soon to check the hand calc method.

P.S. "Dad, let's plug in the 100 tune!"
"Patience, my boy, patience" I said in a mature fatherly way.....then stomped the throttle again to the floor.:D :D :D

I don't drive like an animal.. cruise control was set.. I was not racing anbody. Another key is the tonneau cover. Witha tonneau cover you get better gas mileage then when you gate is down. It has to do with the aerodynamic flow behind the vehicle. And by the way I do not dream... I don't stutter.. it's a fact!

I calculated my MPG at 16.8 this is hwy driving 60 - 75 mph on average.
My truck has 13000 on it as of today, and have been useing Stanadyne every fill up.
So it looks like i'm in the same boat as some you are in, and yes it is stock.

Hand calculated

11.0 towing at a combined weight of 17,000lbs at 65-85mph for 2500mi.

15.5 towing at a combined weight of 13,000lb at 65.

19 hwy unladen. (7500lb)

14.5 city unladen.

If you want killer mileage, order a Std cab, shortbed, 2wd, manual trans, and leave the stock tires on it.

Also remember that they blend diesel different in the winter, and the mileage will drop.

Any stopngo driving will kill your hwy mileage, as will mountains.

You'll get the best mileage in areas like West Texas where it is flat.
