I was talking with my local Allison mechanic this morning and he mentioned Allison upgrades. He told me the 1000 in the Duramax is whats called a 70%. The box trucks that have the Allison 1000 is a 100%. He told me that the 100% parts will slip right into the 70% thus having a better trans. He was pretty sure that the after market people did some research and found this out. Not sure if he knows what he is talking about but it sure seems possible to me.

Every time I talk to my local Allison mechanics ,parts people or service managers, their eyebrows raise up to their hairline with what mods are being done internally ...

70% and 100% refer to C5 piston area, the pickups got
the 70% piston for Closed throttle 2-1 shift quality. I have never seen
anyone slip C5 to date unless the piston seal had problems.
