Hello everyone, I'm new to the site so bare with me. I'm a new owner of a '03 2500HD 6.6ltr.with about 90k. I have been hearing a rattle from underneath for a while. I pulled the plug on the T/C and there was no oil. I filled the t/c up and jacked up the rear end. Put it in drive and still have the noise. It's been about 3 weeks now. The noise is still there. No louder or quieter. It does it in 2wd from 2mph on up. I have the np263xhd. Any sugestions?

Thanks

Thanks markzrt1,
It seems that all the threads I read about pump rub, the owners talked about leaking, I guess I'm lucky for now(with the exception of the noise)

I would still inspect the transfer case for the hole. There are some really good pics around here. See more than once, a very clean truck with no oil in the transfer case. It can leak out slow and dissappear with out making much of a mess, well until you fill it up.

Will do. Thanks

If I don't find a hole(yet) and my fluid level is good, What do you think my rattleing noise might be?

Depending how long it was out of oil,it could be pretty ugly in that t/case. I have seen the shift forks worn just aboot right out and just kinda floppin around in there. I would be pulling it apart for an inspection. Does 4wd high and low still work?

Yeah, 4 hi/low work fine. I guess I'll split her this week-end. My wife keeps telling me to join a club. I guess I can tell her that I'm in the "pump rub" club

On another note, I have a co-worker who has an '02 2500HD cc/sb/stock. He is wondering about any info dealing with the leveling kits. Any word on that?

You could search "leveling kit" or look here

I'm think'n you have hole in your transfer case. Same thing happened to me. A small clip in there holds the pump. Apparently it will break and the pump will pound a very small hole in the housing, making you lose your fluid. Better get it looked at soon.

This is where traditionally the hole appears first.

I also lost all my fluid think it just cooked offs for the rattle noise, when i split my case to install the kennedy wear plate to prevent the pump rub. i found that the tail shaft bushing was smoked and the output shaft bearing was a little noisy and could have gotten a lot louder if not replaced. i think when you run this unit low on fluid the pump pumps the fluid to the front part of the case and the tail shaft 'output shaftbearing' and tail shaft bushing is the first to suffer. at least ithink thats what happened in my case.

Thanks for all your replies. I was going to "get to it" this week-end, but it was nice and sunny. Had to get 1 more chance to play golf before the snow come to Colorado Springs. This week-end for sure. Don't want to loose my T/C on one of those cold snowy days. Is there a good aftermarket pump to use? My Max has a 6" ProComp lift and I ridding on 315x75x16's. It's pretty much a daily comuter and a little "urban" 4 wheeling. I thought I read something about a pump from one place and the "clip" from another? Once again, thanks for your help!
