Hey there just a newbie here with a question about my '02 chev it started smoking at idle cold and hot but it idles smooth and still has all the power there is no smoke when cruising I have an edge with attitude and 4" magnaflow exaust(no cat) and currently a stock intake system. I am still getting 23-24 mpg Is it injectors? or could it be the fuel pressure regulator? I have to call my dealer to see if the injectors were done already. I bought it with 130000 km (I'm Canadian) it has 170000 km now. Any advice would be great.

First thing, do not go to the dealer with the Edge installed, unless you want no help and a flagged vin to never get any warranty work done.

I was going to remove it but I am over the mileage for warranty but I will still pull it.

You have a 200K/7 year on the injectors, if they dall in the letter that the general put out

sounds like yet another injector failure....my truck exhibited the same symptons until it went out for good.....get her to a dealer with a good diesel tech. It may or may not be covered by the 200k 7yr extended injector warranty...mine wasn't others have been. the warranty is for injectors with a high return rate if they check the return rates and they are high then it should be covered. I wouldn't tow or load your truck until it's checked out, if it is injector and stick open while under heavy load you could cause more damage.

Yeh sounds like what I just went through. Smoke at idle but ran just find off idle, listen real close and you will hear that engine is louder than it used to be. It sneaks up on you ( the sound I mean) had all 8 replaced and its so quiet I can't believe it. Good luck.
Gray smoke or diesel fuel is most likely a bad injector or two. Check balance rates at idle. If you see a cylinder over -4mm (or drop it in gear it will go up to 4.5 or more) the injector is bad. I think GM will replace a bad injector for smoke but not all of them. High returns will not cause smoke. Good luck -hoop
