I've been trying to find a hose for the turbo to upper plenim, i can get a stock hose from the dealer for around $30 but being its stock its ugly plain ole black and they say they don't know the size of the hose, only have the part number. So i'd like to pick up a pretty blue silicone one from another source but not sure on the size. Anyone know the size of this hose?

C R I dont know if you have Napas up north, I by the silcone hose here for about $8.00 dollers a foot. They have in balck ,blue orange, and red.

We have a Napa 15 miles down the road, i checked with them and he couldn't get it in. There's a hose shop 1 hour away that carries it, i think the price was $23/ft. I would have bought it then but we couldn't figure out the size with it still on the engine even using a caliper, the best we could measure was 2 3/8" on one end and 2.625 on the other end so i though i should wair rather then waste $$ on the wrong hose.
I trust GMCTD knowledge of these engines and will buy one based on his info of 2.5"
Other question on this is the temp rating, the silicone hose is suppose to be rated @ 285F. Is that good enough?

That's sustained temp rating - you've got frigid ambients keeping IAT low, right now, and you've indicated a charge-air cooler in the works, so that will work.

You could re-seal the factory tube by removing it, cleaning it and the turbo and plenum aluminum with lacquer thinner, apply fresh coat of grey RTV (factory seal), and save some bucks till you get the c-a cooler..............

You'll need to cut about 3" off the intake plenum to install the c-a cooler, so the new blue would be wasted.

Is that what that grey goop was the first time i took it off? Thing was leaking real bad then, stuff was just hanging on the inside and looked like it would blow into the intake. I removed most all of it, seems to just leak o-so very slight now, so i thought i'd fix it up a bit. Charge air is coming, sometime... :D

I don't see how a charge-air cooler would make a difference unless it is WMI injected before the hose.
Also, if installing an intercooler, wouldn't the hose probably be replaced anyway?

Anyway, my truck starts cutting back fuel at 220 degrees and I doubt that it would be very easy to get up to 285 with a properly working IAT sensor. (unless the reflash ignores the IAT)

Yes, new charge-air cooler should have appropriately rated hoses for the task.

Again, frigid temps are preventing Boost-related DTC occurance - been there, done that - warmer climes would set the bells off, believe me.

What did you decide on your trans? (I couldn't get back on here till late Wednesday).

Trans as in transmission. Had a kit from superior installed, its in the sig line, no shift changes, just a lot stiffer shifting. I'm not sure if it was a stage I or II.

Mine is still dead. I am trying to find a used one but haven't had any luck yet. I might end up with a rebuilt. Do these look like a reasonable price? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7937091259&category=33727

I haven't priced any since '99, but you should ask if K series is same price - note the picture is for 2wd.
And you need to see how much metal is in the pan and fluid - may require torque converter as well, if fluid has metallic sheen to it.

I just replaced the same piece of hose the other day. three autoparts stores could not help me. Ended up at a Freightliner parts counter last Saturday and bought a piece of blue silicone hose for $10.00. It seemed like its i.d. was going to be a bit large but it clamped down just fine. They sell it pre-cut in just about the perfect length.
