Work just got me a new truck. 05 3500 4x4 D-Max with a 12' box on it. It is just a base model but does have power extending mirrors, door locks and windows. It was driven up from Orland where the equipment in the box was put in and arrived in Chattanooga with 950 miles on it. My first 100 miles in it brought up two questions. Why is the cab so loud. It is much louder than my 03 Dodge and I think it is louder than the other D-maxes I have driven. I have been looking around to trade and was really considering a GMC but not if it is this loud. Do they use diffirent insulation as you go up in truck levels? The other thing I am not reall happy about are the mirrors they need to be longer. It could just be the box is to wide for them but it is no wider than my 5th wheel.

On the other hand truck has good power, I like the Allison, and it pulls well. Had to hook a 6500 lb box trailer up for a few miles. Looking forward to getting some miles on it.

Try driving another new 05 and see if it is the same. . . my guess is that it won't be. . .Sounds like there is something wrong with the truck. I think Max Payne posted earlier about doing pre-delivery inspections and finding the downpipe shield hitting the firewall and causing excessive noise. . . look on the new truck and see if it is touching. . He said he could move it forward by hand fairly easily IIRC, so it may solve your problems. . .

Another possibility is the fact that it is a base model..Less carpet and such.less sound deadening material....

carpet reduces the sound and it is very noticable. My 01 gasser I had came with a rubber floor and I had them put carpet in it. big difference in cab noise.
