if I am trying to turn my wheels from a complete stop it will only turn once then start to bind I took it to the dealer and they replaced some valve on the steering pump but no help it is worse when I hit the brakes and try to turn the wheel.I do have 285-75-16 bfg tires and a buckstop bumper .the bumper has been on the truck since I bought it and this problem is new,I think the pump is bad but they claim every thing is fine .

That's pretty much the way they design them. Even worse if you apply the brakes cause the hydoboost sucks up power steering pressure.

Since I installed the 315's on my Dodge it's a bit tougher to turn sitting still too.

my 01 2500hd just started having this problem too, i have 35's on mine. it almost won't steer at all when sitting still. the tires being bigger shouldn't affect the steering at all.sure there is more contact area but imagine a plow on the front an extra 900 lbs which do you think would be worse. i also have an 84 k5 jimmy with hydroboost on 44 in. boggers the tires are 20 in. across and wiegh about 200 lbs apiece, can turn my wheel with one hand, much easier than my 2500. i think it is the pump also. i am going to the dealer this week and see what they say.

<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1470932&psdid=437&evc=sm#ss1-1470932">Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment on a lack of steering assist when stopped or during parking lot type maneuvers.

<A href="http://service.gm.com/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1470932&psdid=437&evc=sm#ss2-1470932">Recommendation/Instructions:

Please follow normal diagnostics in SI for this condition. If vehicle passes the Power Steering Test Procedure this may be a normal condition. A phenomenon exists when the customer uses the brake and tries to steer the vehicle when stopped or during parking lot type maneuvers. The design of hydroboost system does not allow for steering assist under these conditions. No repairs should be attempted and any customer situations should be referred to the Area Vehicle Manager (AVM).

.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.

The design does not allow for steering assist with the brake on?????
I hope I don't need steering assist while on a hill! Censored

This ranks right up there with GMs bullsh*t air conditioning excuse. Hopefully they will fix it if enough of us complain.

I think they mean when stopped, but with bulletins like this, you see why customers get pissed sometimes, I know I would.

Quote - "A phenomenon exists when the customer uses the brake...."

Definition = phenomenon - any state or process known through the senses rather than by intuition or reasoning; mysterious, unexplained.

What the??Censored
We can send rockets to Jupiter & beyond but we can't explain/understand automotive brake & steering systems clearly.
Shame on you General Motors....
