I have a sqweek that is present when I crank my truck of the morning, sounds like crickets do at night....Is this the water pump thats making the noise? 26k on the truck.

Had the same "crickets" under my hood on cool mornings. The cooler the morning, the longer the noise was present.

Dealer replaced the accessory serpentine belt and I have not heard the crickets since. My truck has 23k miles.

OC,

The belt itself was causing it? Not the tensioner? I guess I should replace my belt this weekend then.

I am a little skeptical of the fix. I know the '01's had a problem with the belt tensioners. I thought they had fixed that by the time they got to the '02s. But for the time being, there is no chirping present. The paperwork that I got back from the dealer just indicated they replaced the belt. Time will tell.

As a test, try squeezing some baby power on the inside of the belt with the engine at idle. Be careful of the moving parts.

I had a Chevy Z71 making the same noise and this stopped it temporarily.

A bar of soap will do it to But remember to turn the engine off. It could hurt pretty bad while rubbing the soap on if the fan is spinning. You might spill some blood Ü

I had the belt changed twice by the dealer and now with the cold weather i am getting the squeak back again. Next service i will let them know once again. Once the engine warms up a bit the squeak dissappears.

Mine had the squeak from day one, but it seems to be going away. I drove it yesterday for the first time in a month, and no squeak at all. It was about 50° (for those of you who care, you can do the ° sign by holding down alt and pressing 0176). Mine always went away after a few minutes, and it doesn't seem to cure by putting a new belt on, from what I've read on the forum.

At 4k miles my belt tensioner was replaced and a new belt installed on my 04, that helped for a while. Now since it got cold it started again. I just put on a goodyear brand belt and no more squeek. I think its just that the rubber in the belt gets hard when it gets that cold, after a few revolutions and temp from engine heat it "softens" up. JMHO

I have had 8 belts changed for this audible issue, and am on the 9th. The dealer refuses to warranty any more belts, stating that this squeal is normal. I'm finding this to be common among dmax owners. I've read of several "cures," and have tried them all to no resolve. I have found this to be humidity related though. My truck's belt noise is almost absent when on the west coast, as compared to the east, which is where I live.
