I see they also recommend no more than a 5% biodiesel mix.

Where do you get this? I have only seen B100 or B20 for sale.

I suspect meaning is add no more than 5% of BIO D to your nr 2 fuel, I'm waiting for a call from Stanadyne on another issue I'll ask them to splain their Boi-D comments also.

seems to me that fuel system suppliers would welcome ulsd.

I wonder why they would sell an effective lubricity additive, when they could make more money selling new injection systems.

Gm also says no more than 5 percent bio.

Okay I just got off the phone with Stanadyne, they have taken a very conservative position right now, primarily because there is no standard for bio D today, as possibilites of source could be backyard made and batch to batch consistency could cause issue. Residual alcohol, lye, or water could present problems; they would not go on record but said that once commercially BD becomes what folks use as matter of routine; they may relax current recommendation, but for now especially with higher pressure common rail systems they aren't ready to endorse it's use in greater than 5% with Nr2 ULSD.

Does anyone use (mix) the Performance and Lubricity formula together 50/50?

Thanks

Sooo...the only real downside to the new fuel is that there is a "possibility" of fuel system damage and the fuel may be less stable? And this in a paid ad? I'm not sure I'm convinced that I need to put an additive in a truck that the manufacturer has gone on record to say they do not recommend using any fuel additive. A manufacturer that has warranted the engine for 100,000 miles. I'm sure Stanadyne is a wonderful product. I've read where some folks use it in every tank of fuel. But it's got to add to the cost of fuel that we are already complaining about the cost of. How much is Stanadyne? How much is the recommended amount to add to a tankful? How much is that in dollars?

Thanks:)

Well, after reading the great work that Spicer did with the additive test, I just started mixing the two products together. The Lubricity formula is a higher concentrate, and only requires somewhere around 3 oz for a 24 gal tank. So, I am now mixing about 6 oz of Performance, and 3 oz of Lubricity per tank. Probably not the most cost effective solution, but I did buy in the 6-1/2 gallon jugs, which greatly reduces the cost.

As one of the guys here on the DP said about his oil; "I don't know how my engine feels about it, but it makes me feel good"

Last year when I first got my new truck I had been reading this forum for months and spent hour upon hour here after getting it. I looked intensely into lubricants for several weeks and then jumped on the Stanadyne train. Went out and bought a case of the performance formula for $75. or so and used it with every tank. I've checked mileage with every fill since I got the truck, noting fuel brand and type of driving for that tank. Put in the first shot of Stanadyne and patiently waited to see how much my mileage would improve. Never did! At the time I chalked it up to the likelihood that winter diesel was just starting to flow and between the two it was just a wash. Summer came and my mileage went up. I decided to experiment and stopped using it. My mileage went up even more. Started using it and it went down again. I've done this several times now with a few fill ups each way to make sure and I get better mileage without the Stanadyne. Now, given Spicer's research, I don't think I will be using it again.

I have been useing the Standyne Performance formula in every tank for 8000 miles now. Never have I seen an increase in fuel mileage.

they just want you to buy there products. Use an additive to keep the system clean and it should be fine.

I have used a fuel additive in every tank of every diesel I have owned

1982 MB 300SDL 315,000 mi, never a fuel system problem (wrecked)

1986 F250 6.9 original injectors replaced at 385,000 mi. The mechanic at the IH dealer could not believe the original injectors lasted that long.
Truck was stolen at 450,000 mi

1999 F250 (look at sig below ) No fuel system problems to date

2006 2500HD Ditto

I have used Howes , Siloo, and Power Service in all of the above since new.

i used the stanadyne and my mileage improved a little probably about 30 miles more per tank. i am trying the fppf stuff hopefully it is just as good and one bottle lasts up to 240 gallons.

Which product do you use from Power Service?

Grey bottle in summer , white in winter when I travel. Of all of them I liked Sillo the best ,however I haven't seen Siloo in the south

Ran across an old additive test; http://www.fuelright.com/results.html
