Hello everyone, I am in the process of trading my 97 Chevy 6.5 diesel for a 02 GMC with a 6.6 Duramax and Ally transmission. My truck has 163,000 on it and the 6.5 won't pull my 12,000lb 5th wheel like I want it to. Will the 02 handle this load O.k.?? The 02 has dual rear wheels and the tow/haul mode with 98,000 miles on it. Anything I need to look over carefully before signing the papers?? Carfax showed no previous accidents. Any help before I make the leap will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Start with this thread. Lot's of posts with similar questions.
Run the VIN back on the VIN check forum. Look to see if injectors have been replaced, what the inservice date was, and any other dealer reported repairs.
I think you will find no comparison between the 6.5 and the Duramax.

Remember to look in the rearview mirror every now and then to make sure your trailer is still there, and all is well. I had a tire disintegrate and only because I saw the rubber flying in the mirror I knew I had a problem. It really pulls that well.....
You are gonna like it, but do a search and get educated on it first.

GoKart trailers aren't that much of a load Tolly :p: j/k, they really do pull well. But I can not tell a lie.......... we've all had issues....injectors, tranny etc. No diff than any other truck make, just look better and pull better when they're "right".
