: buying a truck this week, several questions, gmc vs chevy
Hello all, Im about to buy a truck but im a bit uncertain on what exactly it is that I want. I think that I like the front end of the GMC better but thats all I know. What are the other diffrences in the trucks? Im looking for either slate grey or black but I really prefer the grey which is another push towards the gmc since chevy doesnt offer it.
I really want nav but im 6'4 and my knee seems to rest on the side of the dash in the SLT/LTZ trucks but I think I can live with it. Any other tall guys care to chime in?
Its also going to be a 07.5 to get the big rebate
305Monster 09-24-2007, 12:07 AM Man Im the same height as you, and had the same issue with the LTZ. I built my truck with 60/20/40 front w/ leather option. Im just going to move over my pioneer head unit that has nav in to the new truck. Honestly the work truck dash is more "truck like" to me, the other dash feels tight and more like a car or suv.
But the ultimate comes down to you. Good luck and enjoy, its a great truck, 719 miles so far and Im still on my second tank.
Are there any other options. I want all the bullshit, bells and whistles in the SLT/LTZ packages.
If the steering wheel telescoped then id be fine because I could sit all the way back. Are there any other options?
Ive lived with alot of cramped up cars (4 vipers, 2 vettes) and im buying the truck becuase im driving a ton and want something comfortable and supportive for my shitty back

If I'm not mistaken, the 2LT loaded comes with the other dash (more trucklike) and most of the other "bullshit." I wanted this package until I found out that I couldn't get the lumbar support. My back gets unhappy durring long trips, and I cannot complain about the LTZ seats with the lumbar - very comfy. I also like the center console, I can throw my phone, pack of smokes, wallet, and still have room to spare. And I think you may be able to fit a small indonesian family under the armrest.
Honestly, the only reason I chose Chevy was I got a smokin deal on it. The GMC's I looked at were, on average, $1500 more than the Chevy. The front ends of the Chevy's have grown on me since they came out, and I wouldn't have it any other way now. I think they are the best looking trucks on the road. I gave $40,900 for it plus tax and all of that other stuff. It took me 4 days to make the deal, but it worked out well.
I am not tall (5'11") by any means, so I don't really have an issue with the cramped thing.
After driving it for 3500 miles, I love it and love the interior more than any other part of the truck...other than the motor/trans part. Good luck with your search, let us know what happens.
brianteel 09-24-2007, 07:35 AM remember also there is a option to move the pedals up and down
The 2LT comes with the truck dash but the console still connects to it at the bottom, so my leg still rubs and if it runs regadless im getting nav.
Im really leaning towards the GMC but I cant seem to find one in the state in slate or ebony with nav.
Roman Traveler 09-24-2007, 11:06 AM You may have a difficult time finding what you want. The 2007.5 sold out as fast as they got them. I just got my 2008 SLT GMC Dually that I ordered in April. I looked at a couple of Chevys and about the only difference I can see is the front end and hood. I chose GMC because of the dealer but I do like the front end a little better than the Chevy, both beautiful rigs. Can't go wrong with either one. Good luck on findind what you want.

I found the truck I want it has everything except nav, but they are saying 2200 will add factory nav from the parts department.
does this sound legit?
brianteel 09-24-2007, 01:50 PM yes it is a 2200 option. you might be able to get one off ebay for alot cheaper and do it yourself. i am thinking about doing that

for the $2200 you could sure go buy a aftermarket smoken hot one. Even the most expensive one I've found is only $800

The nav on my 07.5 was sticker priced at $2,250. It's nice but the GPS features and function suck IMO. The routing is unreliable and it lacks many preferences. I've used the Garmin for over three years and am a little spoiled. I've heard you can get an aftermarket that has the radio, XM and GPS that will work much better and cost much less.
Skinny Dip 09-24-2007, 04:14 PM Im 6'6" and am pretty fine in my 1LT. My only comfort complaint is that the wheel doesn't telescope. My legs are long so i got the seat back as far as it goes but then I can barely reach the wheel unless my seat is straight up. I wish the pedals were farther up into the motor area so i can be closer to my gauges. Also, with the seat back so far it is hard to see traffic lights if you pull up close to them.
I just went and looked at the truck, its steel grey but it looks like it has a hint of the old pewter color in it which is TERRIBLE. I HATE PEWTER. so what do I do know? does anyone have any night shots or something to convince me that the stele grey doesnt have a hint of pewter in it?

I found a gmc with all the stuff i want in dark blue metalic. Should look real nice lifted on big chrome wheels
Adrien 09-25-2007, 08:42 PM Just to chime in on the after market NAV recommendations...if you get an SLT like mine that has the rear DVD and you put in an after market HU it will render all of that stuff useless from what I've read. I didn't want the NAV and still don't want it. Google Maps is free...and it's on my iPhone.

GMC2500HD 09-26-2007, 07:43 AM If you have had that many vipers and vettes, then money is no option. So you might want to look at a nice gmc/chevy crew cab and maybe have some brackets made so that you can move the seat back, have seen this done before. Also the megacab dodge has some serious room in the front and more room in the back so you could move the seat back further if you need to ....
The stock seats work with power pedals, just takes a min to find the sweet spot, i drove a friends LTZ for 2 hours yesterday and felt great. Thanks for the input.

Not that the Chevy isn't a great truck just tap on the corner of the bumper on both the Chevy and the GMC and if you can find the color you like you'll go with the GMC! Even tho you're taller than I what choice do you have, Dodge?:p: Ford:rolleyes:, your in the right place, right here! With the 12 position power seat and pedal controls in my new 3500 4X4 Dually GMC I thinks it's the Cat's a**. I drove a new F-450 Ford back in March when they first came out and it was a loaded King Ranch, not for this cowboy! If you can find the new Truck Trend (nov.Dec. issue) somewhere this will put you over the top! The 3500 4x4 Dually Duramax even blew the new F-450 in the weeds in their pull off, great reading!
