Tuned the truck yesterday afternoon with the 65 HP tune and took it out for an one hour spin.
Lots more power for sure. Can't see this set of back tires lasting long. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
Truck's engine noise level seems to be up. Is this what others are finding?
When I step on it black smoke will come out the tail pipe. If I just accelerate normally there isn't any black smoke. Does this sound about right?
Thanks
Barry

Have you had the reflash done? Perhaps that is why you are getting some extra noise. I've heard that when the reflash is done it make the truck run quieter with a tuner.

No I haven't had the reflash done. I will inquire at the dealer. What should I say my truck is doing to get a reflash done. Will they do it for free if the truck runs fine with the factory tune? That's why I figure I should be telling them it's exhibiting certain symptoms.

what do you guys mean when you talk about reflash. I have a 05 does this apply to me?
Try the Tow Tune, I found it much quieter...even quieter than stock. Mine has not had the reflash. I'm using Stanadyne fuel additive as well, so that may be contributing to the lower noise level also.

04 6.6 LLY Smoke, Fuel Knock, Surging, and High Injector Balance Rates
.
The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom described in the PI.
Condition/Concern:
Customer concern may be a low speed surge (8 to 10 mph or near 1000 RPM), acceleration fuel knock noise at 1500 to 1800 RPM, rough idle, white smoke at idle, or high positive injector balance rates.
Recommendation/Instructions:
High positive injector balance rates (over +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive) may be causing white smoke at idle or while driving.
Document all injector cylinder balance rates at the beginning of the diagnosis.
There is an updated calibration to address the white smoke, high positive balance rates, idle surge, and a fuel knock noise at or near 1500 to 1800 RPM.
Install the updated calibration and evaluate the smoking, high injector balance rates, idle surge, and fuel knock noises.
If there is still a mechanical concern with an injector, and balance rates are still over the SI specification of +4.0 in park or +6.0 in drive, replace only the effected injector.
NOTE: Before any injector replacements a large fuel sample should be taken from the fuel filter and checked for contaminants or poor quality.

FYI,my 05 says no updates available, but I do feel the part pedal surge, the elevated idle smokes pretty darn good, and it can get pretty "raspy" under the hood. Time will tell...

You mean normal driving isn't stepping on it? Hell I knew there was a reason I get crap mileage.):h
Let us know how much it rattles when it starts up in the cold in the morning, some guys have said it clatters a bit.

This morning it did sound like it was rattling quite a bit. I switched to stock tune because of the wet weather and the back tires were constantly spinning. Probably leave on stock unless the roads are bare. Which isn't very often from now till April

Will EGR codes affect performance?? As on my truck the 65hp tune seemed to make little difference.

I did the 65 hp tune with Predator and have noticed much more power,,no smoke and just as quiet.

Depending on age of the truck, the GM SPS will make you call VCI and present symptoms. I wonder if maybe GM has been trying to keep the LLY on the "prescriptions only" program to track them. My 2005 isn't avail, but that's to be expected for a couple of weeks or months...
