I found a local pulling assocation that only offers a 8500lb super street diesel class with a 2.8 single turbo rule. I am wanting to be competitive but don't want to go all out as far as building the motor. I am interested in getting a larger turbo and could handle headstuds but was wondering how much of an advantage it would give and what the added risks would be? Also what would be a good turbo to run? I plan to try to keep this a hobby and not turning it into a money pit. Thanks guys

IMHO.... If you just want it to be a hobby then leave the stocker on it. Anytime you add more HP you are going to be risking motor damage. I would say get your truck setup as good as possible then after that decide if you want to get into it any deeper. Do you have an aftermarket trans? Lift pump? Where are you located?

You're gonna get clobbered if there's any serious 2.8" trucks around, so I guess it would depend on how competitive you want to be. If you want to win, then you're going to need 2.8" to match and the Aurora 5000 meets that perfectly, and has been proven to be dependable. With the right program, a built tranny, and some basic other stuff, I'd say you could be top 5 in a lot of places.

With the stocker, you're probably looking at a top-10 truck, but you'll still need a built trans which your signature is kinda devoid of. If you don't have one, you probably can't hang in a 2.8" class.

Where are ya located?

I have a ppe stage 4 on the way with a ppe lift pump along with billet pickup which they tell me is a refabbed edelbrock 1792. I am located in Bowling Green, Kentucky. I see alot of trucks having problems with blown motors with dual cp3's so if I stay away from those I'll probably have a decent chance of living? I know that anytime you turn something up the risks increase and I understand that but I don't want to do something to the truck where I'm worrying every minute about something happening if you know what I mean. What kind of boost would I see with the aurora 5k with tuning done on a single cp3? Thanks

Just having dual cp3's isn't going to make you blow your motor. There are a ton of other mods that lead up to having dual cp3's that would make you blow your motor.

If you don't want to turn your truck into a money pit, stay sitting in the stands.

Trust me, it won't end at a turbo.
