i want to get the kennedy single lift pump and hook it up to my nictane filter but my question is do i need the harness to wire it? can i hook up a ground and hot to ignition?

I wired a relay to +IGN and put a 20 amp fuse to the + post in the fuse box and wired the lift pump to the relay and grounded the pump to the frame at the pump. Thats what I did, Also added a oil pressure sensor for saftey (no pressure = open circuit) to ground the relay.
