Eric,

I have been trying to find an alternative to the GM 75W-90 synthetic for the two differentials. My local dealer wants C$30.00 a litre (near enough, a US quart). There are plenty of GL-5 synthetics, like Mobil 1, Shell and Quaker State but the only one that complies with the GM spec 9986115 seems to be Texaco 2276. No one around here has ever heard of it. Mobil 1 and Quaker State retails for about C12.00 per litre.

My question is," what is it in GM9986115 that makes the GM oil so expensive, and will it void my warranty if I use an ordinary GL-5 synthetic?

Many people have used the Mobil 1 and other synthetics with no problems, I have found a Schaeffer oil that meets Eaton specs, all though I dont know about GM specs.
