: Yawn... where is my truck?

My '05 Sierra arrived in my state (MA) the middle of last week. The dealer expected to see it on Thursday or Friday. That then went to Saturday, Monday and now today. The order was accepted quick, built on time, out to the railcar the next day, got to MA fast and now I wait...

If anyone in MA sees a Fire Red crew cab, long bed with Duramax badges send the driver towards Fairhaven :)

Hey Tom,

Be happy your truck is that close. I ordered mine on 10/23, and today the dealer told me to expect a 1/2/2005 arrival date! That's more than 10 weeks!

So much for it being here before Christmas.

Keep us up-to-date regarding yours.

Cheers, Jeff

My mods pile is getting bigger so I want something to install them on :)

Nothing arrived today so I'm wondering if it is still at the Springfield rail yard.

Jeff: Did you order the sunroof? I put my order in the week before yours.

No sunroof or DVD player. At this rate, it might not be too late to add-on either. The truck is probably not built yet.

Finally, the truck was delivered at my local dealer today. Of couse the salesman is off today and they are operating with less than 50% of the crew so prep might not be done until tomorrow. I guess I can wait 1 more day.

tbyne,

Do you know how long it was from your build date to the arrival at the dealership?

tbyrne
11-30-2004, 12:22 AM
I ordered it on October 13th, the door says it was built on November 4th, left for the railyard on the 8th, got into MA on the 16th or 17th and arrived at my dealer on the 26th. The longest part was moving the truck about 100 miles from the rail yard to the dealer.

Ozzy

What? I ordered mine on Oct. 4th and it was just built last week. I'm getting anxious to get it. Tired of driving my work truck everyday.

SCUBA_Guy

Hey Ozzy, don't feel bad. I placed my order 10/23, and the dealer told me to expect a 1/2 arrival. Tom (tbyrne) placed his order 10 days before me, and his truck landed at the dealer last week. I guess I'm just getting anxious.

Tom, did you get your truck? If so, post some pics!

Here's something that I posted a few days ago -

I picked up my 2005 Sierra from Alden GMC in Fairhaven, MA yesterday. They were VERY good to deal with so I left the front plate on for about 20 miles :)
So, it's now time to start taking this one apart! A Rhino liner will be sprayed in the bed on Tuesday and then it will go over to Secured Sound in Westport for the following upgrades -

Kenwood DDX7015 2-DIN In-Dash 6.5" Monitor DVD/CD/MP3/WMA with Navigation, voice recognition ect…

9” Screens behind each of the front headrests. One of these will also accept DVDs so people in the front can watch one up there while a different one can be playing in the back. A Microsoft X-Box will also be added. This will feed signal to at least one of the monitors.

Interfaces to allow me to use the steering wheel radio controls and Onstar.

Two back-up cameras. One to see behind me when backing up and one pointing towards the hitch so make it easy to hook up to a trailer.

Tint the front side windows to match the rear.

Clear film over the front of the hood to protect it from chips.

I'll be having a new grill shell, the mirrors, smooth door handles, tailgate handle and flares painted to match the truck while the A/V upgrades are being done. A Stainless steel Precision grill will fill that shell when it is done and a set of Sierra Denali headlights will replace what came from the factory. The high beams, low beams and lower driving lights will all be converted to 6000k HIDs. I'll also wire the low beams to stay on when the highs are activated. This will be the bright truck that you see coming down the other side of the road!
I haven't decided on the brands yet but I will be installing an 8-9" lift kit to get this truck up in the air. This will allow me to bolt a set of 37 or 38" tall tires under it. I'll probably either go with a Cognito or Full Throttle lift with ProComp Xterrain tires are wrapped around Weld Evo Renegade XT wheels. The front section of the lift will be powdercoated red or black. I'll also be having the driveshaft polished and clear coated to keep it looking good. The big tires will be spun by Yukon 4.56 gears.

This truck is powered by the Duramax motor that sends power to the Allison 5 speed automatic transmission. It's rated at 310 horsepower @ 3000 RPMs and 605 lb.-ft. of torque @ 1600 RPMs (about 235/455 rear wheel). It is "ok", but not good enough. There isn't alot of performance parts for the new "LLY" Duramax that was introduced half way through 2004 so I'll be doing some of the basics for now. That includes a Volant induction, the Edge programming with Attitude and a MBRP "Cool Dual" exhaust. These upgrades will be good for at least a 115hp increase and ungodly amounts of torque! The Allision transmission starts to become a little unhappy when it's asked to handle to much power. This is usually when over 130 horsepower is added so I might have a new transmission built with an upgraded converter and then take it to the "next level" of performance when the time comes.

All of this will probably complete the truck for now. The Silverado pictured above will be for sale soon.

Tom

Glad to hear that tucks are still rolling in. What time frame are you guys seeing from order to delivery? I placed my order on November 8 and the slip hasn't been pulled yet. I also read in the paper (Chicago Tribune) that GM is closing some of there truck plants for at least the first week in January and the dealer also added that the plants will be closed for Christmas week. I can't wait for the truck to come in!!

I ordered mine right b4 t-day, the order was accepted the Friday after t-day, with a build week of 12/13.

Fleet sales guy, who is a veteran GM dude, says it should be here b4 12/31. And I'm in AZ.

Don't know what to think, but he has done good by me in prior purchases...

Seems awfully quick to get here from Flint.

I will be in Chandler for the week of Christmas and wouldn't mind talking to another rep to see what their take on this is.:o<O:p</O:p

Well, this was thru the dealer that Costco gave me for my zip. It was Sun Pontiac GMC b4 it just changed hands (after 30+ years) to Henry Brown GMC. I'd bought an '04 Denali XL about a month ago at invoice minus 6k in GM cashback offers. The same fleet salesman was great to deal with.

1k over invoice to order for the DMax CC LB. 1.3k is the *agreed* upon price with Costco. Dealer appreciated my repeat biz, and gave me the $300 discount.

I ordered mine on Oct. 4. The dealer called me the 1st week of November to tell me they would have to wait for the build if I wanted to keep the sun roof. I told him to get the Censored truck A.S.A.P I don't need the sunroof.

I'm amazed that the order went in so quick. Still don't know how they can rail it to Phx. from Flint b4 the end of the year.

Glad to hear that some of the truck orders are being pulled for build. I couldn't get a'hold of my rep today to find out the status of my build so no update on my end. Less the unbelievable 36K deal it sounds like all of us are close to invoice...based on the invoice numbers at http://www.kbb.com (http://www.kbb.com/) . I also ordered a sunroof so I hope that that is not delaying the build...can't understand why it would 10 minutes and a sawzall and I can put in a custom sunroof myself! I am enjoying the other lists and am learning about what to do and more importantly what not to do. I am shooting for the:<O:p</O:p

Aford,

If Banks DMAX upgrades are anything like what they offered on the Cummins side of the fence, your going to pay way more than you need to for the same, if not more performance increase from other vendors...

Further, I'd hold out for DTT ( http://www.dieseltrans.com) to get their Allison stuff out. Bill Kondolay was wonderful to work with on my 47re Dodge auto. The guy knows his stuff when it comes to autos, and won't sell you stuff just to make $$$. ATS, Suncoast and BD all had issues back in the day. Maybe their Allison stuff is great, but 47re, DTT was/is the way to go.

Just my 2c, from 5+ years of BOMB'n diesel trucks...

Hey Guys (and gals),

Here's the the short of it: seven (7) weeks, from order to customer.

Here's my timeline:
2005, Chevy, 2500HD, 4x4, Duramax/Allison, LT package, Crew Cab, 6.5’ box, summit white/med. grey, XM, trailer platform, etc., no sunroof, no DVD player (nearly everything else).
Order placed -- Saturday, October 23, ’4 (because that was a Saturday, the order was most likely submitted to, and received by, the manufacturer on Monday, October 25, ‘4);<O:p</O:p
Built -- Monday, November 22, ‘4;<O:p</O:p
Shipped -- (approximately) Friday, November 26 (because of Thanksgiving there is some discrepancy);
Rail yard -- Friday, December 3, ‘4 (6 weeks from placing the order to the rail yard); and,
Dealership -- Thursday, December 9, 4 it will be delivered to the dealership (dealership is 5 miles away from the rail yard).<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p
Unfortunately, because of my schedule, I cannot take delivery until December 16 or 17.<O:p</O:p

<O:p</O:p
In short, from when I placed the order (October 23, ‘4) until the truck was ready for delivery to me (December 10, ‘4) – 7 weeks.
<O:p</O:p

That’s a really LONG 7 weeks!

Cheers, Jeff

I talked to the dealer yesterday and the order has finally been pulled. The build date is set for 1/3/05 with a delivery date of 1/19/05. Reading the posts here this may be caused because of the sunroof I selected. I have read the posts and seen the GMC picture that shows the sunroof extending outside of the roof rather than going into it. My rep, the commercial truck manager, tells me that this is not the case, at least on the Silverado, and should retract into the roof like the Suburban or Tahoe. However, he was not 100% percent sure and will have a definitive answer for me by 12/13/04.

First let me say thank you for posting the pictures and making them available for the group. The web site, GMC or Chevrolet, does not do an adequate job.

Who has ordered a Silverado 2500HD CC w/sunroof that can confirm if all have the pop up sunroof? My Silverado 2500HD CC w/sunroof will not be in until 1/19/05. My dealer called yesterday and says he sees no restrictions on the 2500HD CC that would require the sunroof to pop up. I am going to follow up with him again to finalize beyond what the roof can handle, if in fact the sunroof on the 2500HD CC raises or retracts into the roof.

I will keep you all posted.

Oooo, too bad there to Aford. Cold front coming in this weekend and there is the posibility of snow for the first time in 15 years here in Phx. Crappy weather at least through New Years. :D

I still think the dealer is yanking your chain on that order. Something sounds fishy.

Well hey, look at it this way, when your out here, you can come over and look at what your sunroof is going to look like when you get it. :p
Outstanding!! Can't be any worse than Wisconsin!Censored

Are you getting the sunroof? If so confirm if the CC has the pop up...as I believe it will. Regardless, I am not taking delivery until the sunroof is relplaced with a slide in (at the dealers expense)!

Yeah, it was a chilly 71 here today. Burrrr....

I am getting the sunroof, and a little bird told me that it should be in Phx. on the 21st. Hopefully I can take delivery b4 xmas.

I'm not sure that I care if it goes outside or not as I'm not looking at it when it is open. One possible plus would be cleaning the tracks, since everything should be exposed vs. under the headliner.

I just hope it is quite with no buffeting on the inside. The factory one in my Denali XL is ok up to about 40 mph, and then it has too much wind noise for my liking.

How long are you going to be down here? If I get it while your here I wouldn't mind showing it to you. Mesa is right next door to Chandler...

PM me if your interested.

It's finally here!!!! Picked the truck up last night and love it. Never imagined it had the power it does. I've been driving a PSD the last couple of weeks and thought that had some power but, doesn't even compare to the DMAX.

Well, mine is in AZ, rolling toward Tucson right now. Supposed to be *at industry* tomorrow morning. The dealer has called into the yard and had the VIN marked as *hot* so I may get a nice xmas present!

Well, Santa came through! Picked it up on the 24th, not a single issue so far.

Sunroof does go up and out. There is now a retractable 'screen' rather than a headliner covered piece. It seems to be made out of a kind of netting, and rolls up like a window blind would, though it is hidden.

Unplugged the EGR right away, installed a new Brakesmart, and swapped out the OEM hitch for a Class V Putnam. Now all I have to do is rack up 500 miles so that I can take out the Toyhauler for New Years!

:ro)

:ro)Glad to hear that Santa came early! Any fault codes with the EGR unplugged? Are you using the "finger stick" and restrictor plate that some of the forums reference?

No codes and no stick or plate. We'll see what happens!

I also picked up my 05 Christmas eve! Extended cab with sunroof. Mine also has the screen not so happy with it so far even with the sunroof closed with the sun directly overhead it will blind you! Wish it had a headline cover instead of the screen! And there is a lot of wind noise. Not sure if I had it to do again I would have ordered the sunroof but at least it is factory! Other than the sunroof the truck is perferct so far just have a little over 200 miles and love it. I spent the day underneath and all looks perfect! My first diesel and it is great. PS according to the dic I'm getting 14.3 mpg!

The best I've seen so far is 13.2 mpg. Picked the truck up a week ago today and put 720 miles on so far.

My DIC is up to 15.2. :D When I picked it up, it was 9.something. No instant MPG's on these huh?

200 miles on the clock. At 40 miles the EGR was disconnected.

I know what you mean about the sunroof screen. I think that I'm going to have to have the window tinter put film on it too. Otherwise my head is going to get roasted down here in Phx. in the summertime!
