: MBRP Exhaust questions
SSNIGHTMARE 11-23-2004, 11:51 AM Hello all I recently joined the forum, but have been reading the posts for months. I am interested in the MBRP cool dual 304 kit. I read the product review on here with the pictures and found it to be very informative. I noticed that the connection for the front pipe and the muffler pipe was a slip over and clamped connection. I also saw a post in here that showed the front pipe connection to be a four bolt flange connection like the factory exhaust connection. Could someone shed some light on this?
Also I am interested the sound. I have heard the video clip on dpp's web page and was wondering if there were anyother audio clips of this exhaust. I really want my truck to be as loud as possible and still have a muffler for the cops are a pain around here.
Also who has the best price for this system?
Any information would be greatly appreciated.):h
Truck is a 2002 gmc ext/cab short bed with duramax/allison
DSTRBD 11-23-2004, 03:50 PM The MBRP system is from the four bolt flange back. With this kit you have a slip joint and clamp that will allow you to bolt right up to the 4 bolt flange on the front pipe. The optional 4 " front pipe can be ordered which also has a 4 bolt flange just like the stock FP. It is a direct replacement. Hope this helps clarify things. Check out our website for pricing. Let me know if I can help.
TheBac 11-23-2004, 08:55 PM Bought my system from Nate.....been very happy with it. T-409 single. The one thing I did extra was to invest in 3 stainless band clamps from Jegs http://www.jegs.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ProductDisplay?prrfnbr=1280&prmenbr=361
cheap, and they don't deform the pipes.

baimpala 11-24-2004, 10:41 AM Whatever you do, if you want it to be louder, you have to get rid of the cat. Huge difference in sound between just the cat back and the cat delete. . .

SSNIGHTMARE 11-24-2004, 11:22 AM Thanks for the info.
I do not have a cat on my truck. So I guess it will be kind of loud.
Anybody who has this system do you like it??

SSNIGHTMARE 11-24-2004, 12:23 PM Thanks for the reply Tony. I read your review and really like it. I was a little confused because your picture showed the front pipe connection to be just a slip over connection whereas all the web site show it to be like the factory 4 bolt flange connection. Also how does it sound.

I did not check Tony's review but it is most likely that Tony has our earlier system when we did not offer the four bolt flange styled front pipe, it was a common slip joint. Our system today does have the flange ,still the same system as Tony's just slightly different in this area.
We did this so that Cat equiped trucks had a choice to remain legal, or to go to a full bolt on no cat exhaust system for those who's state does not require the cat to be in place.
I hope this helps.

baimpala 11-24-2004, 03:21 PM I don't have duals, but I have the 4" single and I think it sounds pretty good. . Not TOO loud, though. . . I don't know what you'd do to make it much louder, though. . .
SSNIGHTMARE 11-24-2004, 03:31 PM Thanks for the replys.
I was just concerned about the exhaust not being loud enough. My friend has a Banks kit and you can bearly hear it. Neither one of our trucks have cats on, and I am looking to get the loudest exhaust kit I can find and still have a muffler on the truck.
GMC-2002-Dmax 11-24-2004, 04:32 PM I don't know if it's because the duals allow me to hear the exhaust better on the drivers side..............but if you get on it, people will notice it..........

Z71 Grizzly 11-25-2004, 12:56 AM Like a glasspacked 350 Tony?
baimpala 11-25-2004, 10:21 AM It's funny, though. I didn't think it was very loud, but there have been a couple of occasions where someone told me they thought it was pretty loud outside the truck. . .
GMC-2002-Dmax 11-25-2004, 11:05 AM Like a glasspacked 350 Tony?No I would call that OBNOXIOUS..........
The more throttle you give it the louder it is , but at idle or cruising it's plenty quiet for me........

TheBac 11-25-2004, 11:13 AM SS,
The exhaust connection is at the 4-bolt flange. MBRP gives you this little "adapter" (for lack of a better word) that bolts up, then you slip the pipe over THAT. Clamp the pipe to the adapter, and WHALLA! exhaust hooked up.
I think they did that because the same system is used for different length trucks, and if you have to shorten the pipe or add the extension, thats where you'd do it. I'm pretty sure the base system is for EC/SB trucks, which were/are the most popular. The bonus is that it also allows you to rotate the pipe to fit the hangers just right, and tuck it up under the truck better!!!!
Overall, its a great exhaust system, both in fit and sound. :ro) I HIGHLY recommend it. In fact, I kinda wish I'd have bought the Cool Duels. Hey Nate, can a guy just buy the tailpipes? ):h
Mine is only "loud" when I get on it, and even then, its more rumble than pure noise. Come to think of it, mine is always loud because I'm never not "on it"!!! :D
Thanks Nate (DSTRBD)!!!!!

Z71 Grizzly 11-25-2004, 07:57 PM Tony I was trying to see what your truck compared too with sound. I'm sure it's not as loud as a glasspacked 350. I've heard the clips on the website and it doesn't give me enough.

tbyrne 11-26-2004, 05:39 PM Nice run! :) Do you still have the kitty under there? I'm on the other side of what people are looking for. I want it as quite as possible so I'll be leaving my cat on. I'll be picking the truck up tomorrow and the Cool Duals should be here soon. I'll probably install them, the Edge and a highflow induction at the same time. Just need to find other bolt-ons for this one :)

Z71 Grizzly 11-26-2004, 07:15 PM Thank's Tony. Good run. Was that with a muffler or straight piped? Sounds good, had a rumbling like sound when it got going.
