This is my dilemma and options...
I have:
2 JL W6V2
500 watt 2 channel fosgate amp
Alpine Ipod deck
in my other truck which i plan on removing
My stock speakers
Should I
(a) use stock deck and an adapter, and install subs and amp
(b) use alpine deck and install subs and amp...
(c) do (a) and have a custom box made for under or behind the seat which may not fit the W6s
(d) have a box mad that sits on the single fold down seat, (much less expensive and will fit) only shitty thing about this if I want 4 people comfortably or 5 people I will have to remove box..
Anyone know if a 10" W6 will fot behind the seat or under?
Or anyone know how the stock speakers will sound with an Alpine deck installed?
Thanks

It would help if you'd list what vehicle you have. Just because you've got an 05 3500 in your garage that doesn't mean that's what your working on.
No matter what though, aftermarket radio is gonna sound a million times better than the stock. That's because they have less distortion. If you've got a replacement for everything, ditch all the OEM crap.

You can use the stock speakers. If it has Bose, then you'll have to have an interface for that.
I don't think you'll have enough room behind the rear seats for the 10W6's. Maybe an underseat box, but I doubt it. The magnets on those woofers are pretty beefy.

10w6 won't fit. Go aftermarket HU.

I ended up staying with the stock HU and just adding amp and subs, 2 10W6V2s...sounds awesome, but now im looking to improve the speakers...should I do the LUX amp OR can I put in an aftermarket amp to run those speakers? Has anyone done this? And how does it sound? Do i lose anything like steering controls, HU knobs etc?
Thanks!

Should've just replaced the complete stereo. OEM speakers will never be able to keep up with those 10W6's and an aftermarket head unit will have a much cleaner sound.

There are 2 things that will make your speakers sound like crap at higher volume: Not enough power, and crossover not set properly (or not set at all). A stock HU normally has very little power and no crossover. If I were you, I'd try the Alpine deck first and see how the stock speakers sound. You may be surprised. The next step would be to go aftermarket speakers, and if it's still not loud enough then add an amp. Set the crossover frequency somewhere in the 80-125 Hz range so none of the deep bass goes to the peripheral speakers. Most nice head units have a built in crossover, but if not you should add one.

Im not saying it doesnt sound good, it actually sounds 100x better than I thought it would...
As you can see no matter what im keeping the stock HU, for the fact I have stock DVD in the rear.
So back to the question, has anyone ran an aftermarket amp to the stock speakers or maybe can I just replace all the speakers with a aftermarket amp and aftermarket speakers and keep the stock HU? OR just do the LUX upgrade...
FYI im really in no rush, it sounds pretty damn good, ovbiously not as good as a 4 channel with components but for just switching out my subs to this truck i couldnt be happer.

aftermarket amp and aftermarket speakers will work from the stock head unit. I'd look into something like this if you were to do that:
