installed a baldwin fuel filter yesterday. i am using it as a primary fuel filter just like my gm dealer told me to do it. the problem is i can't get this filter to prime. i filled the filter with fuel before installing it. i pump the primmer on the oem filter but i can't get any air out. so when i start the truck it starts and runs then it dies. i check the baldwin filter and it is half full of fuel. does anybody know what i am doing wrong:confused:HELP!!!!

what system is this? Baldwin? Like the MEGA kit from JK?

Some things I have learned...

Remove the fill cap from the tank, start the truck and let it run till it dies, then open bleeder and pump...and pump...

Make sure no leaks in the install, this will give your grief if they are present

Sounds like you have an air leak. When I put the Nick Cat filter on I filled the fiklter to2 inche from the top, put it on, cranked the engine, it started, run and died after a couple seconds. Started it a second time and it ran okay.To check for leaks you can open b leeder, put air hose in tank filer tube, Suff a fuel wetted cloth in around it put some low pressure air in tank until fuel comes out bleeder hole or leaky spots where you connected the secondary filter in. Be carful you don't put to much air in the tank. This should get the air out of the line/filter or show you where the leak is. Have to ask. Is the secondary filter gasket set in place.

Also keep in mind it takes about 130 pumps with the OEM pump to fill this filter. And that ain't counting the OEM.

I have a Kennedy post-OEM (Baldwin) Mega filter on our '02 ... does an excellent job but required the addition of a lift pump to end no start/fuel filter repriming conditions ... since addition of lift pump have had zero no starts and really nice to just open the vent screw and push a button to fill OEM and/or Mega

For you that don't know what low pressure is when sticking a hose in the tank, it is as low as you can get. Something less than three PSI. We used to blow dents out of 55 gallon drums with 2 PSI. Ditto what Tommy said about pump strokes. It takes at least 85 for my 660 Racor. Less will cause a no start. In your case it is too much vacuum or an air leak. Later! Frank

what kind of lift pump did you get and where and how did you install it?

ordered the kit from John Kennedy at Kennedydiesel.com ... comes complete with everything you need except a tool to open a couple of fuel line connections ... you will have to drop the fuel tank to put it on, I ran extra hose on mine so the pump is now located above and beside the tank were if/when it should need to be replaced, it will be simple to do so .... have an ocean to ocean and border states to border states trip plus several months of regular travel on the truck since adding the lift pump and have experienced zero problems
