Im not sure if this is where i was to post the questions. I have the 04 lly had it in 4 wheele drive over the weekin pullin a my camper. was in some sloppy mud and got stuck my question is all 4 wheels supposed to turn? just my rear and front right side was turning. some one told me that it should be true 4 wheel drive if it has posi. My outher question is when its in 4 wheel drive it seems like it drags. when i go to put it in park it pops like whe you throw it in gear with out putin on the break. any one have any clue what this could be?

The posi (Locker) is only in the rear... Not the front. You can install a limited slip or a locker in the front dif to make it as you are saying a "true four wheel drive".

So both rears and only one front were turning? That's because you've got a locker in the rear axle and an open diff in the front. Only one wheel will get power on the front axle unless you get a locker or limited slip put in there. As far as your 4wd seeming like it drags we've had discussion about this before and I never came to anything very conclusive but as far as I can tell the 4WD in our trucks is not designed as a fulltime 4wd. Which is to say there is no means in the transfer case for the front and rear drive shafts to turn independantly from each other in 4wd which could in some situations cause binding which is probably what you're experiencing.

Unless you are hard core racing or 4 wheeling you do not want a front locker. Coming down a steep incline with lockers can kill you. Truck tends to go where the tires are pointed and steering is limited. If the road curves, your truck will try to go straight.

I got stuck one time, and my dad told me all four of my tires were spinin'.

Selectable lockers such as an ARB air locker are very good for the front, just turn it on when you need it off when you don't.

I am not hardcore but I know that a locker has saved me several times. Just one of those nice to have when you need it things...;)

If it's equally slippery under the fronts they'll both spin, even with an open diff. I had to plow through some pretty gooey stuff in a field one time and was sawing the wheel back and forth while spinning and saw equal rooster tails of mud coming up on both sides of the windshield as the wheels turned back and forth.:o

Where can i get the ARB air locker? how do they run? My brother has a 03 ford powerstroke and all 4 turn. He got around in the mud like it was nuthing and i could barely move.

NOSLIW; done nothing to it. But the more I read, the more I seem to understand it may have been a freak (like my sister inlaw)

That whole getting stuck incident was a freak (I hope)

You'll have to do some research to find out if any of these companies make lockers for our truck because I haven't had the need to actually look into this yet but the ones I know of are the Eaton E-Locker and the ARB Air Locker. The E-locker is newer which is probably why I've never heard of one blowing up but I have heard of a few guys grenading the ARB lockers and having problems with air lines freezing up in the cold. Although anything will break if you play hard enough.

The locker in our trucks is called a Gov-Lock. Its made by Eaton you can read about it on they're web site. GM has been using them for years. It only works under 20mph I believe, so if your putting your foot to the floor the locker won't work. Also if your spinning it helps to apply a little brake it seems to help the locker lock up. I've had three trucks with these lockers and for everything except the most extreme four-wheeling they do pretty good. Lockers are great but tires play a big part also. Highway tread and most all-terrain tires when they get packed with mud are worthless. If your off the road invest in a good set of mud tires. Detroit Locker makes the E-locker but I haven't check into price for our AAM axles, anyone got one,how is working and what kind of price.
