On the drivers side, straight down from the fuse box under the hood there is a little black hose, sometype of breather hose I would guess??? Anyways I have some oil coming out of it. What would make the oil come out of the hose? I have double and triple checked the oil level and it is right at the full mark if not a 1/16 of an inch below the full mark to make sure it is not over filled. Is is a big deal is what I am wondering?

Do you have 4WD? The hose you are describing sounds like the front diff breather hose (connects to a large plastic cover on the front diff). Does the oil at the end of have a strong gear oil (sulfur) odor?

I do have 4WD and I guess I have never traced where the rubber hose goes. As for smell I am not sure...
The end the oil comes out of has a plastic piece on the end of the rubber hose. The exposed part of the hose is about 6-8 inches then goes into the plastic wire protector...I have seen this hose before on my other trucks but never understood the purpose.

If it does come from the front diff why would it be oozing oil? I guess I have never used the 4WD on this truck since I have owned since I have not needed to use yet but winter is here...

I put my 04.5 and all my previous 4x4's into 4wd mode a least once a month, when the roads are slick enough to allow slippage(raining). I like to know it (4wd) is going to work when I need it.

dmaxhd,

I believe that is your front diff vent. I had a '99 that puked gear oil out the vent hose after long trips, never knew why, it was not overfilled. Obviously there is too much pressure in the gear case.

May want to check the oil level, could be overfilled from the factory.

Other than that, I don't think it's normal, sounds like a dealer visit.

dmaxhd,

What 02B12S said is a good practice to do. At a minimum a few times a year. It helps to get everything well lubricated in your 4WD system so that when you do need it will be ready for you. :)
