my best friend has his truck sitting in my driveway the heater core has gone out and everyone is saying that it is going to cost around 800$ to fix anyone know how hard it is to get to it to fix it thanks oh yea its a 01 chevy half ton

Hard......well, very very involved actually. I think GM flat rate is 5 hours, so customer pay should be 7ish hours, beginner time looking at 14-20 hours, 3 cases of beer, 1,000,000 cuss words, 3 major cuts and multipal minor ones.:D :o:

:funnypost :gr_grin: thanks from what i have heard is that the hole dash has to come out i was thinking how hard could it be but now i think i might not want to do it thanks

I have never done this, but I have heard that they are are a real pain to get at.

Major pain and yes the entire dash has to come out. Plus, it's not like the old ones that came out by pulling a few screws and the steering column. You have to take the dash apart piece by piece, 1000 screws plastic everywhere and a couple of MF's in there too.

I have done a few of them and It takes every bit of 5 hours if you know what your doing.

Find a good radiator shop or A/C shop. I have two guys on opposite ends of town that I give the hard ones to. They do them all the time and are quite good and efficient. I don't believe it's any harder than the evaporator on a '95 full size dodge.

Also, get the quote in writing (especially if a dealer) and stand your ground when they try to up price after starting it. They do these all the time and know exactly what they're gettin' into. If they can't quote the job, try elsewhere.
