: Aux. Back-up Light Recommendation Needed
skoryaro2 11-22-2004, 07:25 PM Looking for idea's to give the wife and kids for my X-mas list :)
Next mod for me are auxillary back-up lights and I would appreciate some recommendations (pics are welcome too!).
I have a tuff time backing into the driveway at the cabin and would like to mount a pair of auxillary back-up lights to the bottom of the rear bumper. I'd like the slimmer profile lights so that they don't hang down too much and are not too noticable. Planning on hooking them into the rear cargo light circuit (if possible) so I can use the cargo light switch to turn them on.
Don't want to get too carried away on $$$$$. Any ideas and where I can get them?
Thanks in advance
Rob

DuckhunterInTN 11-22-2004, 08:07 PM I really like the KC reverse lights. They are really bright...
baimpala 11-22-2004, 08:59 PM Rob,
There are quite a few threads, three or so recently that talk about backup lights. . . There was one set in particular that looked great, but of course in my advanced age, I can't remember things like I used to. . . do a search, you'll have plenty of options for backup lights.

RyanG 11-22-2004, 09:11 PM I bought a pair of 55 watt backup lamps from a local store for $25. Very bright and out of the way. These are hooked up to a switch, not sure if the cargo lamp switch can take that much current.

baimpala 11-22-2004, 09:30 PM You shave in your tailgate? D*mn that thing is clean! I don't think mine has looked like that since it was made!
skoryaro2 11-22-2004, 09:55 PM Thanks for the responses!
Cabelas - Ahh one of my favorite places
Baimpala - Tried a search but couldn't come up with anything (I remember those threads too). You know how sometimes you just can't seem to get the right "keyword".
RyanG, - Good point about the dome switch being overloaded - may go to plan "B"
Jim659 11-22-2004, 09:56 PM Go to Autoanything .com. I just bought a set with the part# 950-30010 or NS-80. I don't remember which number but they have alot of light kits.
baimpala 11-22-2004, 09:57 PM I'll see if I can find them . . . I know what you mean. . .
baimpala 11-22-2004, 10:01 PM Try these:

i was gonna buy the cabelas ones but found mine at pep boys. around $30 and theyre pretty heavy duty. glass not plastic. see the other thread for details about hooking into the cargo lamp switch. the switch doesnt carry much load, its hooked to the relay block and you tap in there. use another relay and a fuse and you dont have to worry about blowing or overheating anything.

Thanks for the info! What "other thread" - can't find it on a search. Can you post a link if you have it to that thread?
Thanks!
Rob
On edit: Thanks for the links Dennis - I didn't see your post until after I posted the above.
skoryaro2 11-24-2004, 12:42 PM Has anybody noticed any difference in buying actual "back-up" lights that have a wide angle lens rather than installing regular 55 watt driving lights to the rear??
Thanks!
Rob
baimpala 11-24-2004, 03:12 PM Probably depends on where you want your focus. . . if you want a wider beam, you could go with a fog light or a backup light. . . if you want a more centrally focused beam go with a driving light. . .

I couldn't wait for Christmas :)
Installed (2) 55 watt Pilot wide-angle back-up lights wired to an "always hot" lighted LED switch in the cab.
