I called supertanks today and asked all kinds of questions (including when it would ship and he didnt go ballistic on me and hang up) they were very helpful and extremely friendly. Just like a business is supposed to be.

This makes up for the incredibly rude people at Road Pussies ( Armor ).

So Im talking to Aros (Spelling?) and he asks me what year truck I have. I tell him and he says Im way overstocked on that item. I will give it to you at 500 + 90 shipping. Its normally 900 + 125 shipping.

I think for a second and tell him hell yeah heres my cc number.

So its on its way to me as we speak.

I thanked him for his kindness and his patients while I drilled him with questions I had.

He said it was OK to post the price/sale.

He said the tank on sale is for gmc/chevy non-LLY models.

Its a smoking deal for a 55 gallon tank.

Hi ProblemChild: Thanks for posting this info! One question though... Isn't the tank 60 gallons for a short bed? You mentioned 55 gallons... just curious? --Paul.

I remember reading somewhere that supertanks is making the new tanks slightly smaller so that you can keep the fuel cooler. Maybe he is getting one of the new ones.

Well, PC, with your luck, I wouldn't count my chickens before they hatch, or in this case, don't fill your tank before it's in your truck. . . or something like that. . . It'll probably get lost in shipment or something. . .

Is it the same tank for a '03 as it is for an '04.5? Anyone know?

Thanks,
Dennis

Did you speak to the owners wife at the front desk?

About as useless as tits on a nun.

That's really not true. Most Nuns I've seen have big cans so they need balance!

Hoot save me!

We've found Supertanks to be a top shelf company that stands behind their products and values their customers. Our tank had a manufacturing defect and they did a great job taking care of us. We will be purchasing from them again in the future. I find companies with customer service like them to be a rareity these days.

Problemchild,

I bet you're really going to like the extra fuel capacity.

Enjoy,
Michael

Guess that $3.20/gallon in the desert really burned your butt! 55 gallons would be real nice. Maybe some pictures when you get it installed? Curious if it extends below the frame rail.

PC,

only spoken to the owner, James and also to a senior design guy, Jim Milton. Both were very eager to help. Cant say anything about the nun ):h

I spoke to the design guy and he was fine.

Its the owners wife (who really had no place on a customer service phone line) that I have an issue with.

Cost was $500 + $94 shipped to Illinois.
Overstock on original design (62 gal) in which you must remove fuel cooler, but employs fins (on some line) to effectively cool fuel.

On the new design ($825, 55 gal), you don't have to remove the fuel cooler, but consequently loose 7 gal in capacity, and pay $325 more.

The rep (Landry) mentioned that it comes with everything necessary to set it up so that the wider truckstop fuel nozzles can be used.

Reps very professional and helpful. Called in afternoon, shipped in afternoon, will arrive in 3 days.

Great Deal, IMO!!!
Paul. :)

Yep it is.........

You can re-locate the fuel cooler. He said that you can move it not remove it if thats what you want.

Thanks PC... If it's not too difficult, I'll have my mechanic MOVE it then... --Paul.

PC,

where would you move the cooler ?

I will look under the truck when mine arrives.
Im sure there are plenty of spots to bolt it up to. You may need to use longer lines.

Damn what's different about the lly fuel tank? Mine looks the same as the lb7 trucks I have crawled under? Sure would be nice to have 55 gallon capacity. Wouldn't need the stuff for the siller neck though as the lly already has a huge opening, I use big nozzles all the time.

PC,

can you also measure how much lower the tank hangs, (such as ground clearance and below the frame ) ? ALso, what does the bottom look like as far as thickness if you dragged over something off road ?

What I've heard is that it drops about ONE INCH below the frame rails (a picture would be nice to either confirm or correct). The rep at SuperTanks mentioned that he's only heard one negative report-- a farmer up in his neck of the woods (Idaho) who rode over a pointed, jagged rock, which dented and scraped up the metal guard, but didn't phase the tank. That's not to say there may not have been other (unreported) incidents, but with the metal shield, you'd have to be roughing it pretty ROUGH to puncture/damage the tank, which has a lot of give/flexibility.

Paul.

Pretty sure once someone did post a pic on here that showed it hanging below the frame.

There was a picture & yes it hung about 1" below the frame. Anyone install the 75 gal tank on a dually? I get 8mpg hauling & doubling the fuel capacity would be nice.

RMAX, I have the 70 gallon tank on my 2004 3500 GMC dually, nothing but praise for a first rate company and product. Had my dealership install the tank [ Supertanks shipped it to them ], it hangs down about an inch below the frame but you only see it from the left side. I'm quite happy with the tank, saves me time and $.

Seahunt,

Did they have to remove the fuel cooler? They advertise a 75 gal tank so I'm guessing the 70 gal allows them to leave the cooler in place. Does it actually hold 70 gal & how close to empty have you got without any problems? Thanks for the help. Sorry to pump you with questions.

RMAX,
Nope, on the 70 gallon unit the OEM fuel cooler line is not touched. I was told my truck would only take the 70 gallon unit as i was wanting the 75 gallon one. There are 6 gallons of unusable fuel and the OEM fuel gage works fairly well with the new tank, I just double the amount seen on the gage. I've run it down to just below the E mark and didn't run out. Ya got more questions fire away, i don't mind @ all.

Just to clarify a couple questions guys. The tank that is being sold for $500 is a 62 gallon replacement for the fuel tank found in Long Bed trucks (like mine). Does this tank require relocation or removal of my factory fuel cooler? I can see how the factory guage would function properly but would be DIC be able to calculate "range" properly? I wish I had more time to research but I don't want to miss out on a price like this and have always been sketchy about in-bed auxilary tanks and like the idea of this direct relpacement.

Chaps, I can't tell you for sure if the 62 gallon tank requires relocation or removal of the factory fuel cooler,
my guess is it would not considering it's size. I'm sure the Supertanks people can answer your question about the
cooler lines. I didn't know they had a 62 gallon tank for long beds....are you sure that it's not the 70 gallon tank
that you're speaking of ? It does have several gallons of fuel that is unusable...if it is the 70 gallon tank then for
sure the OEM fuel cooler lines do not require relocation or removal.

I was just assuming the 62 gallon was for the LB, 70 gallons would be even better! The only thing that concerns me is that I read that these tanks are selling for $500 because they have been replaced by a new model that is baffled. I am assuming the stock is baffled because I have been on extreme angles (in the dunes) with less than 8 gallons left with no stalling. If I do replace the tank I would want the replacment to be baffled. So as long as someone can assure me the $500 tank is not baffled, then I guess I will have to decide whether to fork over the cash for their new model or look into transfer flow or ???. Any other companies worth checking out?

Chaps, I do believe that all their tanks are baffled...call them up and ask your questions, they should be able to straighten you out. To me it makes no sense that they would sell a tank that wasen't baffled, especially considering these are oversized tanks. Transfer flo is another company with a good rep but they are a bit pricy.

This is the reply I got from supertanks. The hitch answer was regarding my husky underbed mount 5th wheel hitch. I'm going to email Aros & ask what other differences there are in the tanks ...baffles etc. Anyone run in warranty issues with a replacement tank? Thinking about injectors.

RMAX,
If your hitch will work with the factory tank it willl work with ours, you have
two options for your truck first option is a true 66 gallon that does not have
any modifications to your truck that tank is $825.00, Second is a true 71 gallon
that does have a modification to the fuel cooler, it is exchanged with a new
fuel cooler that is included in the package, this tank is $500.00. The shipping
will be about $120.00, and will take about 4 days to reach you. Let me know if
you have any other questions.
Thank You,
Aros A. Mackey
