Just installed a single disk organic setup in my dad's '03 LB7. So far, with 75 miles on it, it seems to be great! I replaced the slave cylinder as well. Clutch grabs about an inch off the floor now (actually have to get used to that when downshifting - I've ground gears twice now). Overall, the install was straight forward (thanks to John's instructions - dynadroit), though I give you guys credit who do it on your back on a creeper....luckily I had access to a lift and a tranny jack. My only recommendation during the install would be to remove the crossmember BEFORE removing the transfer case. The directions said to do either one before the other...but I found it to be MUCH easier to move the transfer case around without the cross member in there.
The only MINOR noise seems to be when it's slightly lugged on a 3rd gear start (on a downhill or slight roll on a flat road). It rattles around a bit until the rpm's come up...it actually almost sounds like it's in the trans, but I'm guessing that it has to be the clutch. Has anyone else experienced this? It also chatters a bit when hot, but I'm sure that's part of break in, given the few miles that I have on it.
The OEM clutch plate looked completely brand new!! It was indeed the flywheel that was junk. As John's instructions state, some are so screwed up that they need to be manually turned to get the bolt holes to line up with the bolts so that they can be removed. Mine needed a good bit of turning to line them up (with two people), and getting it to turn was not easy! This was the truck's 2nd flywheel and clutch. The originals were replaced around 40k miles, truck has 93k on it now.
Overall, I'm happy and would recommend it. Pedal might be a touch heavier than stock, but other than the noises I mentioned above (they're not a big deal at all either), it acts very much like the stock clutch, while giving the feeling that it is much stronger.
EDIT: Also took the time to change the trans oil since it has 93k on it. The stuff that came out was BLACK. New stuff was bright red. Be ready though, $17.25 a quart from the dealer and you need 6.2 quarts I believe. Trans shifts real nice now.
