I have the new NSBU switch ready to go on my 2002, but the pictures of how to do it won't load on the new site. Anyone have the link that works to the pictures that have been posted on this procedure? Thanks in advance!:)

Try this link - it worked for me just now:

OK thanks. There was one with pretty pictures! Also, on this one, how do I make smaller so it fits on my screen? (or the printer for that matter)

Go to THREAD TOOLS, SHOW PRINTABLE VERSION, PRINT. I like to copy and paste it all to a word document and shrink it down to a more userfriendly size.

The 2002 NSBU switch has two plug in connectors. The installation diagram provided shows a version three NSBU switch with the twelve pin connector. If you bought the version two, it has a metal alignment strap on it. The version three is black with no metal strap on it. I've been trying to get the twelve pin connector and strain relief from Delphi for six months so I can convert the dual connector to a single connector. Like pulling teeth. Also, the version three, supposedly waterproof, contains oil which leaks out. If oil can leak out, water can get in. I cleaned mine up, double sealed the seams, rivets etc. and plan to load the hub with silicone grease if I ever get the 12 pin connector and relief.

Well, I put the thing on with the two connectors and so far so good. If it fails again I will go for the new harness also. Install took about an hour, put it in neutral, blocked the wheels and went to work. Was relatively easy!

Done that to, except I had to remake my harness. Me had little fire while wheeling out in the weeds. So they are not fire proof either. Don't know why they are using more and more plastic on the bottom of a truck. Also a little piece of plastic holds the shift cable to the shift arm too, which melted off.

Must be having trouble with the neutral safety switch circut. Really if truck does not start is in the top connector, that the one that has all the relay circuts, neutral switch, igntion relay, stater relay. The bottom one tells the PCM and the dash display what gear you are in.

Hope it works

Guys,
What is the reason for changing the NSBU Switch ? Is there a TSB for this NSBU Replacement ? What is GM's warranty on the Allison transmissions ?

I changed mine because at 38 K my truck started acting up!

1. Little bar under gear selection dissapeared
2. Transmission would stay in 3rd gear at times
3. Doors did not unlock when put into park
4. Finally very harsh engagment when going from drive to reverse and reverse to park

My original 2 prong black swicth was wet the first week I had the truck. It has been covered with mud, ice and snow. It has went under water and gets wet everytime I am at the carwash. I think the black switch just went out due to usage.

I replaced it with the two prong brown switch. I hope the second one holds up atleast as long as the first one.

I'm having shifting problems! The indicator bar hasn't been lighting up for a few days, and the transmission will not go into Drive on the first attempt with the shift lever. Also holds into 3rd sometimes, and I have to stop, shift into park, and then back into Drive to get it to upshift properly. Is this the NSBU switch that I am reading about? Source for the switch (factory part, I assume?)? :(:(

Yeah it's the switch. It get's worse the longer you wait!

But the switch from GM for around 95.00 or from an Allison shop for like 45.00.

I think Dmaxallitech here at the Place has them on his e-store for a fair price.

Thanks Bronco! I'll start shopping and get one! By the way, do you know if the new switch has better moisture protection? I had a similar episode with the shifting portion last winter after driving through slushy snow (froze around the switch)!!

The new switch is sealed better but it is still open to the elements. There is a sheild available, but I do not see how any shield will keep out debris. When I removed my switch I had gravel and debris on top, behind and all around my switch.

Here is the link to a member of this site that sales the switch. Not the cheapest switch, but I can guarantee it comes with tech support if needed!
