I inherited a small amount of kerosene (about 5 gal.)
and some heating oil (about 10 gal).

Now it's my understanding that heating oil is #1 diesel,,,,, correct??
And, that kerosene and #1 diesel are just more refined versions of #2 ???

So, is there any harm in dumping the leftover kerosene and heating oil in the tank and running it through the old P.S. ???

I understand there may be some gelling issues in cold temperatures,
but if you diluted it 50/50 with #2 diesel, I suspect that would be fine since it doesn't get REAL cold here in the Pacific NW.

Just thought I might save some money on the next fill up.

Any qualified input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

There are a few threads on the subject. . . There was one fairly recently. Do a search for 'heating oil' and read up. Based on that thread, you would probably be okay running a little with each tank, but I would just dump the whole thing in. . . Maybe a gallon a tank. . . You'll use it up eventually. . .

Good Luck,
Dennis

Actually K-1 (kerosene) and D-1 (#1 diesel) are the same. (VIA MSDS) although D-1 looks to have some additives in it <5%. #2 diesel and home heating oil are the same although the home heating oil is off road diesel and has dye in it. Preimum diesel is first cut with more virgin material and a higher cetane rating.Hope this helped!

Think of it this way, for the 25 or so bucks you are saving by usiing that in your truck, is it really worth it to take a chance? If you heat with oil heat, throw it in there. More to mix/dilute with.

Just a thought.
