I was wondering if water mist injection is needed on non-turbo 6.5 engines to reduce the chances of cylinder head cracking?
Are the non-turbo engines prone to cracking the heads too? Or is it just the turbo ones.
Thanks

Pyro and boost guages are your best indication of what's going on. It isn't only the turbo model that cracks the head. The lower cooling capacity of the pre 97 diesel doesn't move enough water through the rear poassages and they get hotter than the rest of the head. Cracks form between the valves on th #6,8& 5,7 cylinders. Water mist helps to lower intake temps. IC does the same.
On another thread, we're talikng about putting a crossover on the rear passages where they're blockoff plates now to move the rear most coolant away from the heads and possible utilize that hot coolant to warm
