Hey Fellas,

I am new to the forum, so bear with me...

Currently, I am employed with a company that has me doing a lot of travelling, 100 %. I am thinking of purchasing a new truck, but am having a hard time deciding between diesel and gas. My grandfather was a GM employee for a very long time, so if I bought a Ford, I would probably be hurt badly.

Basically, here is what I am looking at:

Z71 off road
4x4
Crew cab

I have my various reasons for wanting these, but basically its because of the business I am in. Plus, it would be nice to be able to help out at a few of my friends farms pulling bins and things when I am not working.

The problems that I am juggling right now are maintenance costs. Nobody seems to know how much it costs to have a dealer work on these things. Not that I wouldn't do it, it is just the time factor.

I have always wanted a Diesel...

Lets see what you guys have to say.

Thanks in advanced.

Dr.

Word of warning, once you go diesel, you'll never go back:)
I've bought gassers in the past to do light pulling for me, but it was just never enough.

Definitely do it dude... I just bought my first diesel which happens to be a duramax, and I am sure I will own another gas truck ever. Steve-O

You gotta go diesel. I love my truck, never had a regret about buying it. Knowing what I know now about diesels, I am so glad I didn't buy a FORD.

I found that ponying up the extra cabbage to buy a diesel in the first place is the big thing. Once beyond that, the maintenance costs are an afterthought. It's a different experience driving a diesel and I feel the same as these other guys. This is my second diesel and I can't see myself driving a gas pickup again.

There are a ton of questions and issues in your question.

Do you "need" the diesel for towing or hauling? If not get a gas truck; be it half ton or 3/4.

If you "need" the diesel for towing then get the GM product....and the 4x4 Z71 CC is the best pickens, it is vastly superior to the Ford and Dodge.

My 06 PowerJoke, my be replaced by Ford with all the problems I have had with it...and then they may put me in a brand new 08 SuperDuty. If they do, it will be traded immediately for the 08 GM product.

Good Luck

Heck, for the comfort and quality, go ahead and get the diesel. The maintenance schedule on the duramax is at 10000 for oil changes which is 2500 more miles than the gasser.

You won't regret getting a diesel. If you get the Ford, it won't be your grandfather hurting you. His inflicted pain will be far less than the agony of the power jokes lack of performance.

Test drive the diesel and you'll see that you have more power, better fuel economy and get the toyota slogan (what a feeling). You should be able to keep the vehicle longer as it will outlast the gasser.

Goodluck in your decision and listen to your heart and your grandfather.
