LLY's without the cat throw codes. CA and Northeast LLY's throw codes and light the SES light. It is designed to run with the cat to make the EGR work.
And it is a violation of federal law to remove the Cat, but, of course, your not interested in this aspect of the problem.

JimCan you buy pass the EGR?

Can you buy pass the EGR? No, the diagnostics are built into the computer. When it runs the
diagnostics and they fail, it sets codes.

That's not entirerly true.....Give the ECM what it wants and no code.

Wish we could combine the two threads.

Wish we could combine the two threads. Hint, don't post the same question in two forums. Maybe the moderators will be nice and lock one down.

I agree with you on giving the computer what it wants but Sean is also throwing a p0299 or something like that, I think Eric said was underboost. So I'm not sure a stick will solve his problems. It will take care of the P04xx codes. Did any of the early guys try the stick without a kitty? Don't remember.

Okay, P0299

Conditions for setting the DTC:
- The ECM detects that the boost pressure is 35kPa below the calibrated value
OR
To obtain the desired boost, the ECM must command the turbocharger vanes closed further than expected
- One of the above conditions exist for more than 12 seconds.

The action is to alway set the MIL

Don't know, maybe a stick will get the ECM happy with the EGR values and it will the be happy with the boost. Probably the missing kitty drops the backpressure to low and it would need to crank up the turbo more that the ECM calculates it should to get the P04xx codes satisfied, and out pops P0299. Maybe we can get Sean to guinea pig a stick and see what happens.

Though I am uncomfortable posting on the "tech"s section...I will refrain and stay just here.

One of the unknowns is what the ECM does when it detects low flow for the EGR and then what happens after it sets EGR code 401 and 404.

I suspect, in an attempt to get more flow, it would be trying to close the vanes more. At idle, which is when the EGR flow test happens, the vanes will be full closed anyway. Is it codeing underboost then? I don't think so, boost is almost nill at idle. Unless the command to close more shows up as underboost somehow? Hmmm.

Another angle would be after the EGR codes are set. Then what happens? I am at a loss here. Would love to see inside the ECM code.

Finally found the post by Rotax who was having this problem.
