: Predator, what power level?
diesel dave 11-21-2004, 02:17 PM Just wondering what power level other menmers are using on there Duramax Predator? as I will be picking one up verry soon.
For truck upgrades I have a 4" cat back exhaust - Magnaflow on a 2004.5 lly
I do not plan on doing any trany upgrades so the 100HP level is not an option.
Thanks
partsguy662 11-21-2004, 02:37 PM dave - I put the 100hp program in, just to give it a whirl....Very strong, but I know my clutch won't take it if I beat on the truck...Having said that, I'm going to drop to the 65 tune and run that for a while....If you tow, you may want to stay with the 40 tune just for safety's sake....
I'm running the tow tune and like it a lot. I'm not running the truck too hard or racing, so it suits my needs very well. Just enough extra power to wake the LLY up. I tried the 65 tune and actually prefer the characteristics of the tow tune better.
Rcher 11-22-2004, 09:03 AM I run the 40hp tune for towing, makes an incredible difference in power. For normal driving I usually run the 65hp tune, it has increased my mileage about 2mpg (avg). ;)
BukWild 11-22-2004, 04:41 PM I've been running mine on 120hp setting for well over a year and haven't been to easy on it. I guess I've been one of the lucky few, because I have yet to have any problems with the transmission.
Wolford 11-22-2004, 04:46 PM Does the predator start adding power when the engine is cold or does it wait kinda like the edge box till the engine warms up??
I know that one is a downloader and one is a box but I figured because the predator is a downloader that it would add power instantly
partsguy662 11-22-2004, 05:33 PM Wolford - The predator doesn't seem to care what the temperature of the motor is, however I can tell my truck runs better when it _finally_ gets up to temperature....Under the 100hp tune, my lly makes a lot of racket cold.....I doubt you would have that problem down there in alabama, but up here in cold country it makes the truck difficult to drive
diesel dave 11-22-2004, 05:58 PM Thanks for the replys.
I should be getting mine in a few days, sounds like FUN!.
_nar_ 11-22-2004, 06:46 PM Hmm a lot of racket? Another guy talking about the bullydog power pup said his also made a lot of noise until it warmed up so I was hoping the predator would be better. How much noise are we talking about here? Still quieter than a powerjoke?
dmaxhd 11-22-2004, 08:44 PM Those that have tried the 65hp or higher does it seem to shift harder or firmer if you are using lite throttle versus heavier throttle?
yamahagrizzly 11-22-2004, 10:26 PM ive used ever tune except the 40 hp i will try thatone tomorow.
the 65 i do not like. i get 13 mpg a 7 mpg drop on the highway. witch sucks. around town it seams to surge. let me explain. at around 17-1900 rpms the engine seems to just jump up to 2300 ish and then revs up again then shifts. its kinda hard to explain but i think the 100 hp tune is easier to drive around town. i got 600 high way miles on the tune and 100 ish around town.
the 100 hp tune flys. theirs no other word to describe it. it just pulls hard and goes. its fun for goofing around but not every day driveing. if you keep it on the 100 hp tune you will need tires soon. mine are getting real low and i didnt do to much power brakeing.
i bought this tune to gaing mpg and some power. once i get bigger tires i will hope tp break even with my mpg but only time will tell.
tbyrne 12-18-2004, 06:06 PM I'll be running 37s on my truck and am hoping for the same thing. I do alot of work with supercharged cars and know how addicting boost can be. It's even easier with a diesel. More power is just a program change away. A little more work is required for supercharged vehicles, they need a pulley change :)
I'm telling myself the tranny will stay stock but I don't know how long that will last. Especially if I decide to go with a 100+hp program. Stock trans will be pissed then!
