baimpala 11-21-2004, 03:09 PM DTC P0299 Turbocharger Engine Underboost
sean walsh 11-21-2004, 03:19 PM Does anyone know what that code means? Or does? Can i stop it from coming up? Any help would be great..
baimpala 11-21-2004, 03:26 PM Could be because the Cat is missing and the excelerator, not sure. . .need someone that knows what they're talking about. . .

Diesel Tech 11-21-2004, 04:02 PM DTC P0299 Turbocharger Engine Underboost
This is caused by the programming from the PPE unit. The ECM is looking for a predetermined amount of boost at a given condition and is not getting it. Once this code is set the engine is put into safe mode which protects the engine.

What can i do about this? Can i get it not to do it again?
Fingers 11-21-2004, 05:32 PM Not all the info is in but other people have seen similar things when the cat goes away and the back pressure is reduced. My guess is the EGR codes (401, 409) are the primary and the boost code is secondary.
Just a guess.

Fingers i am not to sure about that because the boost code is what puts it in Limp mode....Any other suggestions? The other codes have been in there but dont set the check engine light on..
jholly 11-21-2004, 10:13 PM You know it is really confusing when you have two identical threads in different forums.
LLY's without cats will throw codes. They are designed to work that way. Probably not having the cat and having the EGR all messed up screws up the turbo.
Put your cat back on.

sean walsh 11-21-2004, 10:18 PM Since the Egr needs the cat to work the wright way, how can you buy pass the Egr so i can leave the cat off?
Fingers 11-21-2004, 10:19 PM There are other solutions, but some would not approve.

Max Payne 11-22-2004, 10:10 AM Did you put the AFE back on? I have seen the P0299 code when the AFE is on (with the older style filter) All of those codes can be set if the MAF reading is lower than expected by the PCM. The throttle position is xx, the baro sensor reads xx, and the boost sensor reads xx and the RPM is xxxx so the MAF should be xx. See? It can also set if the intercooler hoses are leaking/blown off.

Maximum 11-24-2004, 07:40 AM I have an 03 and have removed the Cat. It will through an MIL only when I tow my trailer and only after a hundred miles or so. I notice no difference in power or any other related symtoms. I also run with juice/attitude in level 2 all the time.
After the truck sits for about 45 mins the light will not return upon restart.
It is irritating but as long as it doesn't stay on I don't worry to much about it. I would like to not have it but I also believe that not having the Cat on the truck is showing the ECM that a prescribe amount of back pressure is not there and thus the light comes on.

Fingers 11-24-2004, 09:07 AM Do you know which code/codes are being set?
Diesel Tech 11-24-2004, 11:46 AM The underboost is caused from the programminng. What it basically means is they have made an attempt to raise the boost and the turbocharger is not able to produce the desired boost level for one reason or another. Reduceing the exhaust back pressure which is what you have done by killing the kitty does not typically affect this. The Fingers mod should solve the EGR codes but under the same conditions the underboost code will mostlikely return unless you ditch the programmer. PPE buys the programmer from BullyDog so you might want to give them a call and see about getting some help with it.
