Sorry for a topic that has been beaten. I have searched and searched but cannot find although I know it has to be here some where ... the essential question... what rim size / backspacing on stock height so minimum damage cutting rubbing????

I have a 2500 HD D/A coming (TPD 11/ 23 not sure this is good as it is thanksgiving week........) and will be changing tire size to 285/75/ 16 BFG AT/KO immediately after delivery. Due to laws in maine the is illegal by the state but oh well. So I am keeping my original tires and rims for when i go to dealer or get my state inspection done...):h

I need to know if I can run 16X8 rims with this combo?? It is also illegal to put a lift kit on so I have to stay stock  what back spacing do I need how much rubbing will happen I really need to get this stuff ordered so it is here when the truck gets here!!!!

Thanks !!!!!

I have read several topics on what you're asking, and it seems like BFG ATs are a favorite, and an 8" rim is recommended. Most of what I have read only involves cranking the torsion bars, and trimming a very small amount of the lower valance/air dam, whatever it is called. Go ahead you should be fine.

16x8 wheels work great...I have no idea what my backspacing is though...never bothered to measure to be honest..I went with american racing wheels..cheap and effective...

To fit 285's on 16x8 rims on my truck, I had to trim the lower valance, zip tie the plastic fender liner back in the front and back of the wheel wells, also raised the torsion bars 4 turns. I do still get a rub in reverse at full lock. Im not sure what backspace my rims are, I think 4 5/8", they are Eagle Alloys. I would try to get something around 5-5.5" backspacing, they should fit good.

making me feel a little better........

05LLY - i have read the trimming, just need it to be "stock looking" to keep the fuzz away..... thank you!!!!

partguy - what AR rims are you using. been searching high and low and thinking evo renegade, weld mountain crusher, but really like the dark look of the AR teflon series (sizing????) as I went summit white with chromme step up bars anf think the dark contrast would look good

thank and keep the info coming!!!!!

BFG's or Revo's are your best bet and as far as wheel, they will have to appeal to you in taste and the backspacing should be somewhere around 4.5 or 5...Good luck

Why don't you get yourself a set of Hummer wheels and then throw a set of BFG A/T KOs on there. They fit nicely with no problems whatsoever, and only MINOR trimming. I didn't even crank the bars.

baimpala,I would like to do the H2 thing... only problem is the hummer dealer here is the chevy dealer too..... they can be sticklers so I am trying to sneak this one through. I see one of the owners very fequently and I drive an FJ-40 that has 33X12.5 on 15 and they do stick out a little. so my inspection ran out and he gave me a hard time that no one would inpect my LC becuase of over sized tires and they stick out an inch ..... got in inspected.... with some helpful advise.....
so if i go over to the dealer and try to buy or get swapped out h2 they will now what it is for.

Thank you for the imput .. i am so curious why you would not have to crank the TB and others do. when you look at the specs in inches for the 285/75/16 and the 285/70/17 they are the same size???????

GMC2500 - thank for the input the more i read the more i think that a minimum of 4.5 but prederable 4.75 or 5 bs would be best. thanks!!!!

dawgj77 - if i lived in a state that was not so freaking democratic where government has to think for the consumer /people because we are stupid and sue happy "cause it is not my fault", i would throw a 6" RCD or Fabtech, regear and throw 35 or 37 BFG or goodyear MT/R but I need to make this a little discreet. not a rant on you sorry.. just upset that this is america and the governement is starting to tell me what I can do with my property. if tires and lift kits caused a problem, california would have banned them a long time ago. i know I lived there for 5 years and was just there 3 weeks a ago. it was killing me to see all the beuatiful 2500 HD d/a in east bay with lifts out there.... AAAAHHHHH thanks!!!!

partsguy662 - sweet.... i do not know how your truck got by me. have been fanatical about looking on there for ideas. Thanks for pointing it out!!! how are the rims taking the salt in WI? same conditions here in Maine. salt, sand, and this new liquid stuff that finds every crevase to penatrate and rot.............. BTW, GO PACKERS!!!!! Spent lots of time in WI, two best friends are from in GB and Milwakee...

rbhme - well, the rims are definetely showing use....I think if I had kept after them better, they might look better...At 50 yards away on a galloping horse they still look great though ):h I would imagine a guy could spend a bunch of time on them to clean them up, but it would probably be more trouble that it's really worth....Cool that you're a packer fan too, btw...I just wish they would blow out their opponent instead of these nail biters every week....Seems like I go through a pile of beer because of those close games:eek:

How are you gonna expailn to the Maine Trooper who gets a hard-on for your truck about the stock sized spare tire beneath your truck? Just food for thought.

Good luck...I think you may need it.

Rbhme-i dont have a lift on my truck, i have 285/75/16 on 16x10 rims...there is only about an inch of actuall tred outside of the fender flare...I turned the bars up and did very little trimming....im not sure where your at or what the laws are like...but if you want the lifted look without the actuall suspension work...give it a try....im workin on gettin some pics, its been raining for a week around here......

On edit: i see your in maine and you cant have a lift -:t but technically with my set up its not lifted, just looks that way..

Good luck

diesel dually - that is a good stumper but one step ahead of that one........ a steel 16X8 rim with same size tire under..... and a removal of the "stock tire" and pressure sticker in door way. so if he really wants me that bad he is going to have to look it up. at that point the spoils go to the one with the most dedication  . you used the proper "greeting" have you met one??):h

Dawgj77- thinking that a tb turn is on ...

partsguy662 - thanks for the info. I heard that they wear out quick but oh well. go pack go !!!! do you remeber the "cheezus of Nazatheth" from the 1997 season?
