: LLY motor
JDTRIP 11-05-2003, 12:15 PM Hi all, just wanted to let you know I picked up O4 3500 yesterday.it has the new revised duramax lly motor. I know there has been discussion about when these would be out, and according to the diesel supplemental manual supplied with this truck it has the lly.the truck was built 10-03 in pontiac michigan. it is black and beautiful.gotta go and put some breakin miles on it.
captainmal 11-05-2003, 12:21 PM JDTRIP,
Everything I read was that those motors were not into production until November 1st.
You just blew our "intel" right out of the water. Sure would like to see a picture of what you have under the hood.

It'll be an exclusive!
WillowCreekStable 11-05-2003, 01:22 PM ......and let us know what the final hp and torque figures for this puppy are!
Camstyn 11-05-2003, 01:33 PM Maybe it's the 210hp LLY version.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Ermm.gif

What in your manual says you have the LLY motor. My manual is filled with LLY information, but I still have the LB7.
dmaxalliTech 11-05-2003, 10:42 PM proof.... whats the VIN ??? I will tell you if it has LLY
LB7 Dmax is vin engine code 1
LLY Dmax is vin engine code 2
Its the 8th digit

Victory Red 11-06-2003, 06:56 AM Plus if you did get an LLY motor this early, you'd better keep it locked up and garaged otherwise a few characters might come over and borrow a few of those improved engine parts http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gifhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
ISurvivedNMU 11-06-2003, 07:37 AM I went by a large dealership in Bay City Michigan and scoped out all the new duramax's there and none were the lly.... They even had some come off the truck Tuesday.... from the factory an hour away... No llyhttp://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
Ahhhh, doesn't anyone remember what kool said???
somekevinguy 11-06-2003, 05:45 PM I wish i would have known about this site before i bought my 2004 a few weeks ago. I would have waited. It is just like when I bought my 98 and read an article a week later that they were coming out with the silverados in 99.
Camstyn 11-07-2003, 11:24 AM I wouldn't worry about it, there's tons of hype and not much substance at this point. Enjoy your '04, there's certainly nothing wrong with it.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Cool.gif
Voodoo 11-07-2003, 08:59 PM somekevinguy,
Like Cam said enjoy it!
I've been holding off on ordering a new 2500HD for the last 2 months. I'm just going to place an order with my dealer and see what Duramax I can order next week. If only the LB7, thats what I'm going to get then. All the hype is realy unknown and GM is not saying enough in response to my e-mails. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif

The interim 2004 Duramax 6600 diesel engine (RPO LLY) becomes available January 2004. Though similar to the current production Duramax 6600, this engine offers some significant differences. The GM Service Technical College (STC) will offer an updated Diesel Engine Performance course to reflect the changes. Refreshed and updated CBT, IDL, and Hands-on course components will be released successively beginning April 2004.
To enable technicians to promptly offer service to customers with the new LLY Duramax 6600 engine, GM STC will release a supplemental video course in December of 2003 that focuses on this new engine configuration. Technicians with credit in any of the current Diesel Engine Performance 2001 course components may take this video course to receive a cross-credit to the updated course components.
Technicians are encouraged to participate in opportunities to complete the training components within the Diesel Engine Performance curriculum path. This curriculum path provides the foundation for December’s supplemental video. This strategy will not only increase the dealership’s overall Service Training Standard score, but will help ensure that the technicians are prepared for LLY Duramax 6600 customer concerns and able to fix them right the first time. Dealers that complete the current standards before December will be in an excellent position to address the needs of the LLY Duramax 6600 customers. Additional communication about the new courses will be available a few weeks before their release.

What don't you know about the NEW project http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/HiHi.gif
lol....i know that there working on something else, but thats all i know:)
JDTRIP 11-11-2003, 04:12 PM Sorry for causing a stir about having the LLY motor. this is my first diesel and I thought some things in the diesel supplement pertained to this truck, but I was wrong. any way I did take the truck to florida and back and it is just great. fuel averaged 19.8 down and 19.5 on the way back. speed never exceeded 65mph. going it never was over 55. these are great trucks, and I'm very happy with the LB7 motor.
Ray403Dmax 11-11-2003, 06:01 PM That NEW project wouldn't happen to be a Duramin V6?http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
Camstyn 11-11-2003, 07:45 PM Glad you like your truck JDTrip, nice mileage numbers!
Diesel Tech 11-11-2003, 08:59 PM Just to let everyone know GM started accepting orders for the LLY option today. Truck are to be delivered in late December. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Big Smile.gif
OC_DMAX 11-11-2003, 09:26 PM So who's going to have the first one?
SonnyBear 11-11-2003, 10:40 PM Diesel Tech,
Are you sure it now available for order? I specifically have been waiting to order until the LLY option proved true or a false rumor. If true, I will be ordering by mid-December. Have you heard if it is for the new 3500 only? Looks like I will be calling GM marketing to verify when I can order. Thanks for the info.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Thumbs Up.gif
Diesel Tech 11-12-2003, 11:25 AM SonnyBear
All I can say is the dealer order system accepted my order for the LLY! We have been trying every week and it has been rejected up until yesterday. As far as I know once the change-over is made it's the only Duramax engine you will be able to order in a pickup. It is listed as a replacement for the LB7 engine currently in production.
Poof..then there's the Allison updates..
Allison® Automatic Transmission Valve Body Hardware Changes
2001-2004 Chevrolet Silverado
2001-2004 GMC Sierra
with Allison® Automatic Transmission (RPO M74)
The valve body for the Allison® Series 1000 transmission has been revised for the 2004 model year to add modulated main pressure control. This revision will provide additional transmission oil cooler flow and reduced pump load during certain low speed operating conditions. The revised components will be installed on all 2004 transmissions and will be functional on the L18, 8.1L gas engine and LLY, 6.6L diesel engine but not on the LB7, 6.6L diesel engine.
Visible changes to the valve body assembly include an added modulated main valve body assembly, a control solenoid and a revised internal wiring harness. The modulated main valve body and solenoid are located on the bottom, near the front of the valve body assembly and are connected to the wiring harness by an additional wire and connector.
<H4>Important</H4>
This revised valve body will be used to service all 2001-2004 models. The modulated main pressure components will not function on the 2001-2003 models as the TCM is not equipped with the calibrations necessary to make these components operate. Installation of a modulated main equipped service valve body on a 2001-2003 transmission will not affect transmission operation.
Interchangeability
The current valve body assembly, P/N 29541572, is fully interchangeable with any 1000/2000/2400 SeriesTM production main case. The shift body, the main body and the separator plate are not interchangeable between the two generations of hardware. The current design incorporates a relocation of the dowel pin in order to prevent mixing of current and former designs.
Parts Modifications
Passageways and orifices have been added/modified to allow for the implementation of the Modulated Main Pressure feature. Mixing of former P/N valve body components will not be possible. Relocation of dowel pins and modification of separator plates is not allowed to facilitate the assembly of former and current components.
New Service Procedure
Removal and installation procedures for the complete assembly have not changed with this modification. However, it is important to know that the correct Wire Harness, P/N 29539792, must be used. This harness includes an additional connector for the current G solenoid. When securing the G solenoid to the Modulated Main Valve Body, be certain to insert the retaining clip from the "Main Body" side. The clip needs to become trapped between the two components. There are now six gold colored bolts (longer 65 mm (2.56 in) that secure the modulated main body to the valve body assembly and also to the main case.
Diesel Tech 11-13-2003, 07:04 PM Mic
The allison update has been in all '04 model year trucks built, but it can and will be retrofitted on any units that have a field failure. The upgrade was done for the increased torque in the new motor.
Amric 11-13-2003, 07:41 PM The revised components will be installed on all 2004 transmissions and will be functional on the L18, 8.1L gas engine and LLY, 6.6L diesel engine but not on the LB7, 6.6L diesel engine.
Sounds like the LB7 doesn't get the increased torque. I wonder why?
Chalie 11-13-2003, 10:08 PM I'm confused http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif in the article MIC wrote it states This revised valve body will be used to service all 2001-2004 models, but Diesel Tech is stating it has been used on all 04's built this year. I'm waiting delivery of my d/a since 9/31, with a build date of 11/24 and delivery date of 12/26 what are the chances of this Allison update. It's a bitter sweet wait the longer I wait the better chances I feel I have to get all the updates needed and maybe they will run out of the LB7 motors and give us the optional/udated verison LLY(wishful thinking).
Thanks for the site...

My question is...
So if I have an '04, LB7, does the TCM have the calibrations? If so are they disabled? Can they be enabled???
BRUCE 11-29-2003, 12:41 PM IN REPLY TO WHEN LLY ENGINES START, I HAVE A TPW 12/8 AND DEALER GOT (CHANGE OR ORDER) ABOUT 11/24. HE SAID IT IS CHANGE TO LLY. IF THIS IS TRUE THAN THIS MUST BE 1 OF FIRST TO GO IN TRUCKS. DONT HAVE VIN NO. YET, BUT WHEN I DO I WILL CHECK THAT 8TH DIGIT FOR SURE. WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE UPDATED MOTOR BUT THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH LB7 EITHER. THE WAIT IS KILLING ME!
Voodoo 11-29-2003, 05:55 PM Bruce,
I just placed my order last saturday at the dealer for a 2500HD CC 4x4 LWB D/A (I would guess it went in Monday or Tuesday). It was for the LB7, now I wonder what I am going to get. Time will tell and the waiting is driving me nnnnnnuts.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Confused.gif
How long does it take to get a build date from the time the order is placed?
Capt. Charlie 11-29-2003, 06:20 PM Voodoo,
I got my "build date" about 10 days after I placed my order.http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Approve.gif

Mine was ordered 11-14-03, received the TPW on 11-28-03 exactly two weeks later. TPW is 1-12-04
BRUCE 11-29-2003, 09:27 PM VOODOO, MINE ALSO WAS ORDERD AS LB7, BUT DEALER GOT THAT (CHANGE OF ORDER) ABOUT 11/24. SO I DONT KNOW WHAT TO SAY. TOOK 2 WEEKS TO GET TPW.I AM GOING IN NEXT WEEK TO TRY TO NAIL DOWN TRUTH ABOUT LLY AND GET A DELIVERY DATE. I THINK HE WILL HAVE ALL INFO BY THEN. I CANT STAND THIS ANYMORE. I'M LIKE A LITTLE KID AT XMAS. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED.
Voodoo 11-29-2003, 11:03 PM Bruce,
I do understand your frustration. I had been holding off on ordering for a few months before I finally had enough of the cat and mouse games. I would guess I will get the LLY at this point, my order went in on 11-24 or 11-25. The funny part was I didn't seem to care when I was going to place my order, but now that it's in... the waiting is just brutal. I will call my dealer on Monday to find out more.
The part I DO NOT like is; I'm buying something for 40k+ and have no idea what I'm getting. At times I feel like I should back out of the deal. http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/smileys/Throw Up.gif
