What's with the new page? Took a while to get logged in this morning.Any way,I'm looking for information on oil additives to increase the longevity of of my big bad Cummins. The last vehicle I owned was a 89' Dodge Ramcharger. The best vehicle I ever owned next to Dodge I have now.I recently had to give her up for inspection reasons. The motor(318) had 198,000 untouched miles on it.I changed the oil religeously and I also added Dura Lube every third oil change.I noticed a dramatic drop in water temp and a raise in fuel mileage.Would any body out there advise putting that certain product in a Cummins with 105,000 mile on it? Any imformation would be appriecated.By the way,That 318 never used a drop of oil and was running strong when I put her out to pasture.:(

Don't use any oil additives in your Cummins. Just use a good 15w40 dino oil to break the engine in such as Chevron Delo400, Shell RotellaT, or Mobil Delvac1300. If you want, Once broken in (15,000-20,000 miles), you can switch to a synthetic motor oil for maximum protection. I chose to run Mobil Delvac1 5w40 and still use the factory recommended 7,500 mile drain interval. I only switched to synthetic oil for the cold weather start up benefit which is quite noticable when compared to regular dino 15w40. Remeber, the Cummins will go at least 300,000 miles before needing an overhaul and that is using regular 15w40 dino oil.

Don't use any oil additives in your Cummins. Ditto. A good oil will have good base stock and add pkg enough.

Well, I am definitely glad I looked at this post. I was looking at changing out the front and rear differentials on my truck for fun....but I now know I will not use any synthetics or additives. Just a straight up good oil!!! I have used nothing but Rotella T in my truck so far. I notice a little odor from it for about 500 miles or so, but nothing that would cause me to switch.

I have Delo bulk in my 3500CTD now. What's wrong with using Howes, or Marvel or that type of additive?

I hope you have not done your diffs yet because the 3rd gen Dodges require synthetic oil in the differetials. The factory fill for the 2500/3500 is 75w90 synthetic front and rear. My response to Peterbuilt400 had to do with engine oil only.
